    Hey all,

I don't remember exact model but I know it's the g73 with the i720xm (qm?)

Anyways I it has not been used much since I got my g74.

Inspected made sure all still works. Everything checked out, screen was booted multiple times to be sure and it was fine.

Anyways it got to the buyer, no scratched on box. Laptop looked fine, but when he starts up the machine half the LCD looked normal, other side lots of nasty colored line on it.

Problem starts at minute the screen is on, so before windows or anything.

Trying to fine some good dissasembly for it, do i need a full disassemly or can i get to the cable to make sure nothing got knocked loose?

My sister was looking at a picture of a panel behind the lcd which was taken off in looks like one piece.

Sorry this is long but buyer is deploying so I wanna make sure and do my best to help him.

Thanks for all the help all!

Looks like a PSOD (Psychedelic Screen of Death), as it is called around here, caused by a faulty LCD cable.

I had that very same issue with my G73 back in the days when the term PSOD was still unknown for the G73 community, which make me believe I was the first G73 owner to get it (how lucky and proud I am).

Anyway, unless the LCD cable is actually loose, you'll have to replace it.

Dumb question, if its the LCD cable would it still occur on an external monitor? He doesn't have time yet to check for it but I figure he could get a hold of one to check.

    Thanks for the help oofc!

The issue will NOT occur on an external monitor (or HDTV) if the problem is due to a faulty LVDS cable, cable connection, or laptop screen. The external monitor gets its video from the HDMI or VGA ports, which are separate pathways, different from the laptop screen and the cable that connects it to the motherboard.

If the issue occurs on both the laptop display and on an external monitor or HDTV, the problem lies with the video card or the video driver.

Nope, if it's the LVDS cable, everything will show up fine on an external monitor. If it works on an external, then it is either the lcd panel or the cable.

No, it won't. That's actually the first thing I did to rule out a possible VGA Card related issue.

Go ahead and try it out. The image should be crystal clear on an external monitor.
