So I never bothered to post about this, because it always seemed somewhat minor to me, but has anyone ever noticed that their screen, on darker colors, has something like a TV snow effect? Its not visible from a distance of more than 2-3 feet, but any closer, and it is pretty obvious.
Also, for anyone who has been following some of my foolishness around here, this has been going on since before I ever opened the laptop.

I noticed on gray colors there was a bit of static/snow when the screen is in a certain position. This is on an AUO screen though, not the Hannstar that the other models have.
What is your panel's ID? -
Honestly haven't looked. Happy to know that I'm not going insane though
-
Any closer ie sitting in front of it typing..? No, I don't see anything like that. Check what kind of panel you have, if it's an AUO you might have got a refurb with a lower quality screen, if it's a HSD (hannstar) then you should update vbios+drivers, and if that fails RMA. And if that fails, glasses
-
<--- Wears glasses.
-
yea i can see it too if i look at it from like 3-4 inches away..
hannstar screen. -
My Aspire 6920 that I'm using right now has a Samsung TFT active-matrix screen and doesn't have this issue. Strange that a budget laptop would have a seemingly better screen than a top-of-the-line machine.
-
Mine had that snow/noise/distortion. Mine was an LG. It started getting dead pixels all over. So I had it replaced. They replaced with what I believe is a Hannstar, and now it works perfectly. Night and day difference.
-
No snow here
-
I don't exactly need glasses, but sometimes I lay in bed and prop my laptop on my chest. The combination of the angle+distance means I see it. It isn't really bothersome, but just wondering if anyone else saw it.
-
hmm now this is bugging me, i thought it must be a standard thing with this screen and now some people saying they dont get it....
please check with the black screen using the following app...
for some reason it only seems to be noticeable on an entirely black screen.... Cant make it out on games, black wallpaper,etc.. -
nope... black pixels are black. no snow. no gsod's. just... black.
-
Same here, no snow.
Screen is Hannstar -
The newer screens might be better, perhaps? I dunno.
-
I had it really bad on the auo screen and also to a lesser extent the lg screen. It's mainly noticeable on full dark gray backgrounds.
-
no black are black, as in there's nothing wrong with the pixels, but if you look really closely(like with your nose to the screen), the black seems fuzzy and you can see some movement..well thats the only way i can explain it, tried recording it but camera wouldn't pick it up
-
That is exactly what I am seeing.
-
seeing all black. AUO screen.
-
Mine reminded me of a bad power inverter. The screen would show "noise" randomly, or maybe every time the AC current would change, but I could always see very faint horizontal lines. It also reminded me of an image that would be pre de-intelaced state.
-
No problem on pure black but on dark gray there is obvious "snow" Hanstar
For example : launch the Adobe Reader without opening any file, the dark gray color of the background is "dynamic" on my screen lol
