I got a G73JW XT1 a few days back and noticed that the screen had bright patches in the middle. I could see it when the screen was showing dark colors. I went ahead and exchanged that one for another one. The new one has the extra brightness problem too. This time it is around the edges of the screen.
Is someone else also having such issues with their XT1

Just keep exchanging till you get 0 bright dots. Its actually quiet rare to get 2 with bright dots in a row.

I think your new LCD is just normal (I too have it when my screen is currently viewing all black, I can see some faint brightness around the edges), if I'm not mistaken, those faint brightness around the edges of the LCD are called LCD bleeding, and I think, it is currently classified as manufacturing limitation as of the moment.

There is such a thing as an excessive, unacceptable amount of backlight bleed, however. First, it should only ever occur at the edges, if at all. I'm getting a new screen installed on my JW-A1 in RMA now because I've got bleed around all four edges. Typical bleed is generally a little bit only from the bottom, though it does happen on the other sides at times. But it shouldn't, if you have any at all, be creeping more than a couple of millimeters from the edge. Any more than that becomes generally annoying to most people. I've seen many people whose bleed goes beyond an inch or two. That definitely is cause for a replacement. In some cases, it's the construction of the chassis itself and not the screen that causes the problem.

Thanks guys.. dint know it was called bleeding :D ... The problem is on 2 sides(left and bottom) and it is pretty irritating on the left side specially while watching movies.. I think the bleed is about half an inch..
I'll go ahead and exchange this one too

Yeah I think that needs replacement, LCD bleeding on mine is not more than 1/4 inch on 4 sides.
