I just did a recovery from the recovery partition, and everything was going fine, until suddenly I had to reboot in order to finish the recovery. Well, when I rebooted, the screen wouldn't turn on anymore. The LED status lights stay lit and the blue lights are all lighting up, but my screen won't come on and I don't seem to hear Windows logon sound so I assume Windows isn't working either. This wouldn't be so much a problem if I can at least POST and/or get into the BIOS, but with no screen, I have no idea what's happening. I already tried removing the easily removable RAM at the back and see if that changes anything, but it changes nothing. The fans seems to work, and the harddrive shouldn't matter because even if the HDD failed I should at least be able to POST. I also tried running directly from the power brick with no battery and that doesn't seem to work. And if the little button on the underside is CMOS reset, I tried that also.

Does it work when plugged into an external monitor? It does sound like something isn't seated correctly. Have you called asus?
-
-
Time for an RMA I fear, unless a connection came loose.
-
How can you check if a connection came loose?
Also, how does Best Buy handle RMAs? I bought the laptop from Best Buy. -
Shake it. Just kidding don't do that. If an external monitor doesn't work then you might as well RMA. There's a cable that connects your laptop screen to the motherboard/GPU, but external ports are directly linked to the motherboard. So the external can't get loose. Logic says if the external doesn't work, its not a loose connection. I hope you can get this resolved.

I was thinking of reseating the gpu
-
Reseating the GPU would void the warranty? Or am i mistaken?
-
hit fn+f7 to turn on your screen
nah, I have no idea. U probably have to go and get it repaired.
btw, what does rma stand for? -
Reseating the GPU could do it, I agree. It doesn't void the warranty right? I thought I read that somewhere on here...
Return Merchandise Authorization. -
How would I go about reseating the GPU?
-
Personally I wouldn't try re-seating the GPU unless you have a fairly deep knowledge and level of experience working on laptops. My understanding is that the G73JH isn't exactly the easiest notebook to work on.

You are better off just RMAing the laptop. If you mess something up you are screwed and Asus will blame you. If it doesn't work, and Asus is able to tell you've opened up the laptop and tinkered around with it, they will probably blame you for the the failure as they have reason to believe you were the cause for it not working anymore. RMA the laptop, and get it fixed on their dime.
