    Hello everyone,

I've been looking around for a solution for this weird problem, but only mac users seem to have this one. I have a "squeaky spacebar", it makes a very loud squeaking noise when I press it in a certain place while typin (the middle). I was wondering if anyone knows whether there's a safe way of removing the keys on this keyboard, or perhaps knows a way of fixing the "squeaky spacebar" issue.

In return, I want to share a fix to another popular problem I've found on the forums.

For those of you who have issues with "keyboard lag", or keep "missing keystrokes", it's not because of the way you type, but a driver issue with the touchpad. To fix this, you can go to the ASUS website ( ASUSTeK Computer Inc.-Support-) and download the Touchpad and Keyboard Device filter drivers (found in the "others" category). This should significantly improve the "keyboard lag."

I posted the fix for the keyboard lag, not sure if anyone attempted it yet. Seems like it was danced around.

And the squeaky spacebar... Ah. I had that. Just take the spacebar off, get a small scrap of paper and wet it with some WD-40 so that it drips, and put a few drops on the bottom of the space bar, where the sound comes from.
    Solved it for me!

Thanks for the reply Kaelang. Could you be more specific on how to remove the spacebar safely? I'm very inexperienced with chiclet style keyboards and am very unsure on how to go about it. I don't wanna just pry it off because I have a feeling I'll snap some plastic components. Any recommendations / instructions?

I just put my thumbs under the side of the spacebar that faces you when you're looking at the screen and popped up. Be careful as to not break anything, but you should be alright.

I started to do that. Then I got scared. LOL. I think I might just take it in to the service center after all. Thanks for your time though :).

I don't blame ya'. I got scared too. Replacement keys are only like 5 bucks though. :)

Hey Kaelang, not sure if you're still following this thread, but although the fix that I posted solved the problem 90%, I still seem to be struggling when I type fast. I've searched the forums and can't seem to find a thread that suggests anything but disabling the touchpad drivers in BIOS to fix keyboard lag / missed keystrokes. Would you mind sharing your fix or linking me to a post of yours that outlines it? Thanks in advance.

EDIT: just disabled the touchpad driver from BIOS. It fixed the problem alright. But it's kind of ridiculous, since I'll be using this laptop in class, and I'm not about to lug around a mouse with me. Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated. :)

I want to thank you. I did the same thing with my X key and just about fixed the squeak. It still squeaks barely on the way up, so I'm not sure what to do about that. Maybe a bit of WD like another poster said?
