Suddenly my Asus G73 wont charge the battery past 84%, and if i unplug the A/C power with the battery in the computer shuts down immediatly. I can run the computer with A/C power without the battery in, with the battery in but i cant run on just the battery. The battery indicator in the front will stay steady orange for a while, and then go to a flashing orange. Also, the battery indicator in windows will say 84% plugged in charging upon startup, this will last a while and then it will go to 84% plugged in not charging.

Do i need to flash to 211 ( currently 206 ). I'm out of ideas, and im currently out the country ( deployed ) So sending it anywhere isnt an option.

Sounds like your battery is dead/bad. You probably don't have to RMA an entire laptop for a dead battery, but like you said, you aren't able to send anything out.

    Stay near a power outlet.

I could care less if mine didnt charge past 98%, i just wish it charged period. It wont run on the battery at all. With the battery in and the A/C adapter plugged in to the computer it runs, as soon as i unplug it, poof kills the computer.

Definitely one for the warranty. Call ASUS and try to RMA the battery alone. I don't know if it's possible.

I don't think they are suggesting you need to RMA the entire laptop; just the battery. --- At least I hope that's what they're suggesting...

    Cheers,

Completely normal, Windows Power management does this to prevent overcharge and extend the life of the battery. Recharge automatically stops somewhere betweeen 96 - 98%.

Also, for the OP, you can use HWinfo to check the wear level of you battery and see exactly how much charge it is able to hold.

Thank you Hasib, just found that info on the internet and was going to run some tests before posting about it. What I found is that Windows won't charge if the battery is above 93% or so percent when it is connected to the A/C and will only start charging after going below 93%. Looks like a cool feature to me.

dgp06. I'm sure you've tried it 100 times but can it be a contact issue between the battery and the laptop?
