The increasingly outdated G73 is really starting to show its age in modern games, and it's getting to the point where I have to debate whether or not to preorder games for that or just go ahead and buy them on my Ps3. I'm currently trying to decide between the PC and Ps3 versions of Bioshock Inifinite and Crysis 3.

Is anybody else still gaming on their G73-xx? How have you found modern games to hold up on it?

Lock your games at 30FPS, set the resoltion below 720p and all the details to minimum with no AA and it will then play like a console only never with any framerate hickups ;)

Meaker nailed it. If you would like to play the latest games on our G73 with playable frame rates, we definitely have to go away from the full-HD resolution and crank down the graphics settings a little bit until you're fine with the frame rates.

The game I play most is StrarCraft 2 and when I am on multiplayer with max graphics settings, my frame rate dip to as low as 12-15 fps during clash (worst if there are tons of zerg or a mothership on the screen) so I have no choice but to crank down from ultra/extreme settings to high but still on full-HD resolution to have a playable frame rate.

I was more commenting on the very poor graphics that consoles offer but yes toning down the most stressful effects should see you get much better graphics at a decent frame rate.

If there is a game out that is running the unreal modified engine 3 then you can try to see how it runs as the new bioshock runs on that. Bioshock 2 was a moded 2,5 version of it. A bit of OC and it might run the game near high settings with 5870 GPU. Can always go over to the 6900 or 7900 side :D. Even the 6900 series is enough to keep the JH running strong for at least a year or two.

As has been mentioned if you're opting for the PS3 versions you should really just set your laptop graphics to the pitiful level of consoles and play them on your laptop...

If you want to just max out the graphics you can't do that on the G73 anymore but you can get a nice middle ground by just dropping down things that matter less like shadows and reflections to keep your other more noticeable settings cranked up.
