I know the G73A1 comes with a backpack. However, (a) I'm fairly particular about backpacks, and (b) if I were to get a G73, it would likely be one of the X models that does not include a backpack.
Thus, my question. What backpacks have you lucky G73 owners found that actually fit this beast? I'm a bit concerned as when I checked at eBags.com (which usually has accurate information about which bags fit which notebooks), there were NO backpacks that fit the G73.
Right now, I have a G51 that fits nicely in a 17" Swiss Gear bag and is fairly easy to tote around. I'd consider selling the G51 and upgrading to the G73 if I could ensure there was a bag that I would like that would hold it.
Note, when I travel, I carry a sh** load of stuff like notebook and USB power adapters, USB cables, portable WiFi routers, power strips, overseas socket adapters, iPod, medium size digital camera, etc. and even some work papers. It all has to fit in the backpack along with the notebook, which is why I am so particular and why I need a really big backpack.
TIA,
Ira

Slappa Velocity Matrix.
Best bag I have ever owned.
/thread -
I looked at that slappa but I ended up going with the Targus XL. it's HUGE and has plenty of room for my laptop, AC adapter and mouse, as well as all my notebooks, textbooks, water bottle, and lunch when I'm on campus. Only issue was that the bottom didn't seem to have a lot of padding, so I just rolled up a hand towel and dropped it in.

I have a swiss gear. It will fit... not in the laptop pocket, but it will fit in that zippered compartment. I didn't like it not being in the protective pocket.
I shopped around at different brick and mortar stores and found out that the Targus CityGear fits perfectly and isn't much bigger than the swiss gear. It is pocketed approximately the same so I really like it. Those Slappa bags are sharp, but I wasn't sure they were appropriate for a 40 year old manager to walk into a meeting with. A little too gamer dude for my peers, I think. If you want one that's about like the one you have and fits perfectly, get te CityGear. -
Mobile Edge Alienware Orion Backpack
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834997405&Tpk=alienware backpack
Looks great, very well built, 3 separate zippered areas and lots of space for everything. Fits the G73 perfectly...it was made for the M17x and that is a little bigger than the G73. -

-
Ok, but trust me...the G73 fits great in the Alienware Orion Backpack. I have no complaints and the last thing I wanted to do is try and jam the G73 in a bag thats too small or too tight a fit and scar the rubberized case
If that were the case I would have just sent it back to Newegg and tried another bag.
-
It looks like the Orion may also suffer from this problem. What is your experience?
Thanks,
Ira -
Not sure 100% if it fits the g73, but this bag is definitely big and it should fit, along with tons of other things.
Best bag for the price IMO.

newegg has a nice "capacity" spec to let you know the laptop pocket size of the backpacks

The Slappa is pure quality. The way it is made (zippers, etc). The Targus feels like a cheap POS next to it.
Just my .02 though... -

That was pretty funny. Great visual.... -
I bought a Targus CityGear Miami Messenger case and like it alot. It fits snug in there

Ira, The Orion Alienware has 3 seperate zippered areas, the spot for the laptop is Checkpoint ready, easy open and removal. The 2nd compartment is large and holds my power block, game pad, mouse and cables with room to spare. The 3rd is smaller and I use it for my software, dvds, ipod, cell phone, wallet, keys, magazines...you get the point

For those with the Targus XL or other "huge" backpacks. Does anybody have any recommendations for a backpack that will fit the G73, as well as a 14" Tablet PC that is a decent size along with each power adapter? I would put the tablet in a sleeve to protect it. Does the ASUS backpack have room for these?
-
I'm buying an Astro Scout backpack. Seen one in person, it's really roomy.

Do you think I could fit the G73 as well as a 14" Tablet PC?

Just ordered my Scout backpack. I'm so married to this thing. >_<

I got the XPS bag myself and though it is a great deal I personally look like a school kid with this things strapped on. I'm thinking of returning it and going with a messenger style bag instead. Only thing I need it to fit is the laptop itself, its power adapter and cables and a neck pillow lol. Neck pillow kills space though but oh so nice during those long flights.

I'm just giving you a hard time.
The Targus CityGear has room for all of that and it is what I would call "normal sized". The Targus XL might be a better bet since it is probably better designed to carry that much weight. It would all comfortably fit in the CityGear like I bought, but I don't know if it would hold up over time. -

For $29.99 you really can't beat the XPS. Fits my G73, power slab [bricks are smaller
] mouse pad, naga + G9, extra HDMI, 3.5m line out adapter, cell phone chargers ,wrist support, usb hub, external drive, Creative Fatal1ty headset, apple wired keyboard, 13" macbook, power brick. . . . and that's the short version
It's still light enough and evenly distributes the weight well enough that I can haul it with no problem. Typically I travel by car, so size is not an issue. I wouldn't attempt to take a bag this size onto a plane however.

I have had the XPS backpack before when I had an XPS1730, and I loved it. But what about the fact it says XPS? That kinda bothers me, I guess most people wouldn't even know what it means but still. It's like driving a Ford that has Dodge emblems on it.
-
It should fit snugly in the part made for the laptop. I have the Velocity Matrix, BTW. -
Yeah, i hear ya, I have the backpack too, just got it a few days ago so havent had to take it out much. But I'm not a big fan of it saying "XPS" on it ethier. I figure considering it was only 30bucks, I can deal with it. This backpack certainly can fit a whole bunch, it is big like everyone says, but I mainly plan on using it for traveling more so than day to day use. -
JUST GOT MY ASTRO SCOUT! DEAD FREAKING SEXY! /caps
...this thing has so many compartments, it's not even funny. I moved my schoolbooks to a messenger bag to have on the side. It's well padded. Only complaint is I wish they made the whole main compartment plush (there's a sleeve where a console goes, Scouts were originally made for that purpose). Otherwise, my G73 fits like a glove in the main pocket, the front pocket has a small pouch where my gaming mouse goes (I think that's where Mixamps go if you have an A40), and two little pockets for controllers. I'll take pictures when I get home, I have class all day. It'll give me a good chance to give it a test drive. FTW! =D -

This one is a perfect fit if you want just coverage for your G73 and something not so huge!!! And if you have the A1/A2 model with the bagpack, it can be used for extra protection as the material is dust and scratch resistant - just fit your laptop in the sleeve and the sleeve with the laptop in your bagpack!! If you are an owner of one of the X models, you buy the slappa shoulder strap (it is being sold in the slappa site for almost half the price of the sleeve itself)
http://www.slappa.com/shoulder-strap
Grrt product IMO with good reviews too from the alienware M17 owners! I use it for my Dell XPS 1730 and plan to use it for the G73 which is going to be my next laptop! Plus cant iggy the name guys - STEALTH LAPTOP SLEEVE for a STEALTH BOMBER LAPTOP! My only con is the huge price of the strap which is almost half the price of the sleeve itself!
As a sidenote for all the slappa fans - Did you know that the word "Slappa" is a colloquial term which means a woman who sleeps with multiple guys and doesnt mind with whom it happens and where it happens! Check this -

May be half the money of the shoulder strap goes to the foundation which gave the name to the company and these wonderful bags! But as long as people dont start observing name on the strap and giving me grins im happy using them

This is what I have. I got it free from somewhere, but it's extremely nice. Tons of padding. -
Ok, this maybe a dumb question since there is so much discussion about what would be a good bag, but is there any way at all to order the OEM bag you would get if you ordered the A1? I've searched around but have never found anything, but maybe one of you may know something I don't. Do they ever pop up on ebay? on here? I have the G72, so even the old bag for that would be fine. Thanks for any help.
The XPS bag looks like a winner otherwise, but like a few of you on here, the fact it has XPS on it, while not a dealbreaker, would bug the heck out of me. -
-
I ended up getting the XPS bag. It is huge, but fills my needs well. The G73 fits snugly, but comfortably in the laptop pocket and there is lots of space for all the other junk I like to carry. Plus, at $30, how wrong can you go ;-)
Thanks to all for the suggestions.

I am quite interested in the Slappa Velocity Matrix Pro backpack, but would appreciate it if someone could confirm that the G73 will fit in the bag. Otherwise I'll probably go with either a Targus bag or the XPS one.

Sorry, I just tried my keyboard and it does fit great in the Asus backpack so I will keep mine.
