Agree about the cheezy review. But at least they mentioned the 460m was OC'd and M5870 was not - not that the average n00b customer would notice. Payola? I'm aghast at your insolence.Blackmail - anyone????
If we are going to talk about your bleedy JW screen, we need to at least know your screen model number and hopefully have pics, although there is another thread on that. I want to know what screen I'll potentially be getting - important info. What is more important is carry-over known probs from JH, notably keyboard/touchpad deal-killer snafu's, and anything newly negative on JH. From your posts, I assume you're OK with keyboard/touchpad on JW, but have you read all about it and rigorously/systematically tested? There was lag - delay and missing of random chars. There was dropping of double chars. There was inability to hold down space bar and other keys in games. Possibly other polling type errors I can't remember right now - a whole syndrome of related nastiness. Anything-anybody-anywhere????
Big question is - did Asus fix this on JW and not tell us?Or maybe you are just one of the blessed ones? This is the very most burning question right now for JW customers like me.
I don't care quite so much about JW's sub-10k 3DMark06 score as long as the mini-beast will just function properly and not give me a gigantic in hassle. $2K to buy it is OK with me if it could last for 4 years. That's only $500/yr, $1.40ish per day. That's cheap, but only if it works as advertised for 4 years before it goes to computer graveyard.

2 years and I would be happy but probably less for me especialy if something interesting comes up. The bleeding screen I have is the Hannstar others think is so great. There is a thread about the bleeding issue on the jw model. I don't know much about key tricks but the keyboard has a lot of flex and spongy. The trackpad is really good and very fast. Single button on the jh will only upset for the lifetime of the laptop and the button was very stiff. It was a real joy to go to dual button on the jw. The rubber finish does show dirt but you can't clean it with paper towel need a rag.

Sure hope that doomed notebook was a G73JH. Hate to contemplate the sinful and obstreperous nature of an individual that would anniallate a JW - just like that - poooooof. -
the fact that this thing isn't built to military spec doesn't mean it's of poor build quality. i wish i could afford to throw away a $1600+ computer just to look like an idiot..../humanfail
personally i have no issues with the way my G73 is built. it's a solid machine and does what it's designed to do. and before anyone goes crying "fanboy" this is the first Asus laptop iv'e owned. If i were a fanboy i wouldn't bring up the fact that my GPU fan is making noise already (2 months old), this doesn't bother me so much as i'm capable of fixing it myself (part is on order).
having bad luck with one or two machines out of thousands does not mean poor build quality. this is the internet and most of what you read unfortunately are complaints, people like to voice their opinion, which is fine, it leads to solutions to problems. but the downside is you don't hear a lot about the people who are happy with the product as they have no reason to come here if nothing is wrong. -

Anyways, I have to agree with the Asus quality thing. Overall, great laptop on the inside, but the plastic build does shave off some of the costs. I'm not saying plastic is bad, but it's probably not going to hold up to the accidental bumping and wear-n-tear of everyday life as well as metal. But then again, metal may bend and stay bent, while plastic may either break or just be the same with some scratches, though I have never seen anything damage metal that won't also damage plastic. Also, the quality isn't always consistent with Asus.

I guess I am one of those broke adults, being disabled I had to save for around 16 months to get my G73. I was going to buy another brand but this one came around and I am glad it did.
And having been an engineer for most of my life I have owned quite a few Laptops. And this one is very well made as laptops go.
In fact I would venture a guess that this G73 has some of the best cooling I have seen to date in a laptop. And it does look awesome, at least to me it does.
The keyboard is of a type I have never seen, but I like it as it feels solid and is easy to type on. The case is solid , it does not twist as some do or fold in when you pick it up. Hmm am I missing something?
But I guess I do not count being one of the broke adult club members. -
i want to know if he has the squeaking keyboard issue... or anyone else for that matter. (space bar in particular)

I'm sorry man but mine is like a tank. its like the ads say: its stealthy and its like a tank. Only problem i had is with creative and other software , which pretty much are solved now. Now i think this laptop is very solid.

1) I wish I never seen it because people like them really me off, just wasting money when it could put to much better use.
C'mon give the money to charity, cancer research or just donate it to a someone that can use one!
2)Someone should do the same to them and see how they fair!
I wish the laptop exploded when they threw it up somehow and they all got what they deserved!
Ok, rant over at least I got that off my chest and feel better, as for build quality on the G73, personally I don't have one but I have used one for extended periods(about 2 weeks and it was the BB model, my buddy went away on vacation and was kind enough to let me test drive it) and I have to say it's pretty good, nothing to rave about but no squeaks or rattles, touchpad works as it should and nothing is coming apart, screen is decent.
If it wasn't for it's massive size I would more than likely gotten one but I need something smaller and easier to carry around.
I think the OP got some lemons and if I ever had any of those issues I would have sent the laptops back for new ones or asked for my money back.
I wish you luck! -
In defense of this video, they might have been fed up with the problems they found in the G73 and were too lazy/or fed up with the troubleshooting.
Or they could've just bought it for the sole purpose of destroying and let 1k go to waste. Which is absolutely stupid. Why not just find a laptop that's already got a bust mobo, hdd, screen or something and run it over instead of a brand spankin' new piece of tech. -
edit: just saw the car bit, those guys need to burn in hell for that! -
I can't speak to the issues the JH had, but the JW has been an incredible performer and rock solid.
So my take away is that I long as I don't throw up into the air as hard as I can over concrete or place it behind a car tire, I should be pretty good. -
LOL those guys really should've sold it- did you see the car they drove over it with? That laptop is probably worth more.
-
Anyone ever think that maybe they work in the business, and the unit they destroyed was a defective one that was slated to be discarded?

@Jhonkss
That's just meant figuratively not literally.
It just means I like to squeeze all the performance out of my laptop and I have accidentally burned out hardware doing so.
I think I might just change it...lol -
