I had to RMA my G73JH a few months back, the mobo got replaced.

Since I have got it back both fans run at 100% always. It is loud! Before RMA the fans only got this loud after gaming for a while. My temps are OK.

    BIOS 211 haven't tried 209, ATI drivers 10.10, 10.11, 10.12 = no change. vbios update = no change.

I can't seem to track down a fix for this other than RMA. I don't see how it could be the thermal sensors on both the gpu and cpu.

Look at the fan speeds in hwinfo = above 4000 rpm's

But at the bottom it has gpu speed at 30%

Any ideas? I am going to open it up to make sure everything seems to be in its correct place. But other than that, I just don't know.

A quick bios reset to defaults would be an easy thing to try.

In addition to the temp sensors, the fans have their own controllers. You have tried changing the BIOS between versions where the fan thresholds were changed, and if that didn't change things, you either have really dirty fans, or a problem on the board itself.

No go, did not change anything.

No I haven't. I will flash it back to 209 and see if that does fixes it. I have verified that the fans are clean.

Also.. are they on 100% from the instant you boot? Have you tried another OS like a Linux LiveCD (ubuntu or something)?

Yes, and after I got it back from RMA I did a clean install, 100% with old OS 100% after new OS. I have not tried a livecd though.

Meh, if it's at 100% from the time it powers on, it's either a problem with the EC firmware (maybe from a bios flash), or a problem with the board itself. You can try flashing the BIOS (correctly, with a fresh FAT formatted USB stick from ez flash in the bios), or just send it back for another RMA - that's a shame.

You could try reseating the fan connectors, but if both are at 100% that's unlikely to solve the problem.

Alright, I am now running 209. No change, I did it through DOS with AFLASH2 and the fans were at 100% there too. I am going to double check the fan connections just to be sure before I have another long wait (RMA). I think your right that it is most likely a mobo problem.

I am not looking forward to another RMA.

    Update:

I took the thing apart made sure everything is clean and all connections have been made correctly.

    Summary:

The mobo that Asus RMA replaced the old dead one with has problems of its own.

It works fine and keeps nice and cool, but just because this notebook was built to look like a jet doesn't mean it should sound like one too.
