So there is one thread about India. Was wondering if any of you know any cool retailers (online perhaps?) in China. and if possible, maybe any brick retailer that has them? I am Currently residing in Shanghai. I been to local best buy, but haven't see one yet. maybe should check it out again.

    anyway, any info is appreciated.

Have you tried to go to Xujiahui? There's a lot of laptop sellers around there.

Though I personally I haven't seen one since my return on early March.

Have you tried Metro City? It's suppose to be the largest electronics mall in Shanghai. However, AFAIK, the G73 isn't available in China and people have simply been importing them from overseas. If you can read Chinese, you can also try taobao.com (similar to ebay in the US) and purchase one from there. Currently, I'm seeing quite a few sellers listing G73JH laptops.

If all else fails, you can always order one from a US reseller and have them ship it to you in Shanghai.

Are you residing in Shanghai as well, David?
I wonder how much the shipping price (and probably along with imposed taxes) if I import them from US reseller. AFAIK, the import tax is pretty high in China.

I've never lived in Shanghai, only visited there a few times :)

From experience of shipping laptops to Hong Kong, shipping should be around $200 USD if the reseller chooses USPS (express mail) as the courier. As for duties tax, I know the rate varies depending on the item being shipped, so I'm unsure of the amount that needs to be paid. It's probably better if you asked your local post office or customs office.

As far as I know, there is one online shop in China selling G73. But the price...can kill you, about 20,000 RMB.

These high end gaming notebooks carry ridiculous price tags in China. Here's the thing - not many people can afford them, and those that do, have bottomless pockets. If you're Chinese, you know what I'm talking about. I'm Chinese, so I know what I'm talking about ;)

That's only if you exclude Hong Kong :p
But for the most part, I agree that the majority of local Chinese citizens would not be able to afford a laptop like the G73. However I'm sure there must be foreigners living in China that can afford and willing to pay the high price of a gaming laptop, not just Chinese folks in the high income bracket. Young expatriates would be a prime example.

Metro city, where is it? I tried this one huge PC mall in pudong, close to Centry avenue. there is a lot of asus retailers, but none of them carried G73. I haven't tried Xujiahui, but I definitely will.

If you guys know the retailer that has G73, please let me know, regardless of price. I def want to buy one from Taobao, since the price is the same as in US vs. physical retailers where the price is over 3k usd.

But before I do, I wanna touch it, feel it, play with it little bit... so, that's why I am trying to find anyone who carries it.

Metro City (美罗城 ;) is in Xuhui. I'm not sure what the exact address is, but I'm sure it can be easily found on google.

U'd better find a local shanghailander to help u on this.
I would be able to help u if i was still in Shanghai(definately buy one G73 for myself),unfortunately, currently i'm studying in SYD AUS.

Obviously, if you are willing to buy online, no need to reduce the field on Shanghai and the price will be lower. direct link to G73 search in all China:

    htt p:// search.taobao.com/search?q=g73&cat=1101&commend=all&atype=b&ppath=20000:11656&cps=yes&filterFineness=2&source=search1&isrse=yes&sort=price-asc

(same remark as previous message for the link)

Prices start below 10000RMB (inc. shipping)

Sry for posting the similar information as urs.
The reason i restricted the area to Shanghai only is that the buyer can test the item and pay cash if he chose to pick the laptop up.
If u were a Shanghailander, the more reasons u should have already known which u would not buy a thing from other places of China when u can find the same one in Shanghai. :p

Thanks for the info guys. While I did use taobao to search for it, due to my elementary chinese skills, I didn't set search parameters on shanghai only. Actually, it is pretty good idea, so that I can go and check it out myself before actually purchasing it.

Dont know about the rest of the China, but I lived in many big cities, and Shanghai is one of the safest city.
that being said, due to human nature here, small stuff can "disappear" quite easy if you not careful.

Actually the G73 sold on taobao is also the ones which the seller bought from US.
IMO The best solution is to ask one in the US buy one for u and sent to china. It's cheaper then buying from taobao or local reseller

    21988 RMB =~ USD 3100
That's as ridiculous as HP Envy 15 in Indonesia.

Most computer products are overpriced in China, here in Shanghai, a desktop 5870 GPU cost as much as a 5970 in Singapore, which is about double the price, and the price in Singapore is already overpriced compared to US.

To put it in another perspective, if you take all countries into account, the US sells computer systems and components way below the international average MSRPs. In other words, it is not China, Singapore, UK etc that sells overpriced computer products, but it's the under-priced products that are being sold in the US.

Concerning the prices in Singapore, some laptops are really affordable. Those with simple Core 2 Duo/i3 processors with an Intel GPU cost around S$1000 usually. However, high-end ones always breach the S$3000 mark. My G51Jx-A1 with 8GB RAM and Blu-Ray as standard was sold for $2998 while a Toshiba X505 which I bought online for S$2300 cost S$3998 in stores! The price for the ASUS was OK but the Toshiba was pure madness! However, I was quite surprised to find many US models sold here in Retail Giants like Harvey Norman and Courts. (I think they are both Australian).

Yep, they are Australian, and that's strange, because we don't get any US models at all. The only way to obtain a G73 is to buy it through a Clevo reseller...

There's a redalienware for China (Yes, another brand copy from China) gaming laptops, though it was only selling clevo rebadges last I checked, and a bit overpriced probably due to 17% VAT in China, not sure if they sell G73 now though. Problem with overpriced computer products in China is that the average folks can't afford a good new, and modern computer, while the rich are so rich they won't even bat an eyelid purchasing a supercomputer if they ever need to, much less caring about whether any computer part is overpriced by 50-100%.

that is true.. when i saw a Toshiba X300 Qosimo with 9700M GT in Dec 2008 ,it was 4k... i was quite stupid then and if i had known there was a brand called Asus or MSI , i would have bought a laptop from them instead...

there's 17% VAT in UK too... anyways , the price is quite similar too to china..
