How do you guys think of the keyboard of the G73?

Personally I think it's crap. Makes me miss keys when I am typing at full speed. It has a very low throw and doesn't give much feedback... Perhaps it's just me.... since I come from thinkpads and fujitsus... :p

It bothers me a bit, but I figured it's because for the last 4 months, I've been using a netbook so I'm used to a slightly smaller keyboard where the keys are directly next to each other. But I do notice with my G73, I miss keys here and there.

Patience. Also, research - try the Search this Forum function and search for G73 keyboard. There have been a number of posts about the G73 keyboard, both positive and negative.

I moved to the G73JH after using a MacBook Pro for 4.5 years, I really like the keyboard on the MBP, but I also really like the one on the G73 - I find it very comfortable to use.

I have also used a new MacBook and I have a Mac Pro at home, so they chiclet keyboard isn't a new thing for me, I've been able to get used to it fairly quickly. I quite like it. I find the spacing good, I like the shift and return keys (they are normal sized, a lot of laptops make those keys smaller I have found). The only issue I have is the shift does seem to stay activated a little longer than I like making the first two letters of a word capitalized for me. I'm learning to compensate for that though.

My impression is that I need to strike quite hard and deeply in order to have my stroke registered. The spacebar and the shift key is suboptimal too, both being too small. Some of the keys are particularly problematic and require an extra force to have strikes registered....

When compared to my Acer (see sig), which has quite a crappy keyboard that attracts dust and flexes easily, the G73 fares worse. My old Sony (chiclet) and Asus (normal keyboard) are much superior...

My G51 which has the same keyboard is perfectly fine. Registers everything normally.

The g51 keyboard (from photos) seems to be the same one as the G73? Or is it a bit smaller?

I think you just managed to get one with a crappy keyboard. I don't feel I need to press any harder, and I only get a little bit of flex.

I can see your issue with the right shift, but the one on the left seems to be normally sized.

Should I send it back to get it replaced then? Not that it'snot working, but just that I can't type as fastly as I can on other keyboards...

This. I've been using a 15" laptop for 8 years and the key spacing on this keyboard are much wider and further apart than I am used to. Chiclet keyboard sure looks cool, but I prefer typing on the traditional keyboard. Other than that, It's been fine and haven't had any issues.

Maybe you need to go to the gym more often? I don't think you got a bad keyboard from what you've said. I think you need to increase the dexterity in your fingers. Because the keys are further apart, your fingers have to press down at different angles that you are not used to, that's all it is IMO.

after trying a bunch of current asus models in store, and their semi-chiclet keyboards, I find they are much flimsier than many of the other makers models. If the G73 is the same I would agree that the keyboard in not in the top of its class.

My G73 keyboard was total crap, wouldn't register keys properly, and the spacebar just flat didn't work on the right side unless I MASHED the thing... very annoying.

So, I swapped the keyboard from my G51 to try out on the G73, and it works perfectly. So, my G73 keyboard is defective and no where near as good as the G51 keyboard I've used the last 6 months.

I'm thinking there was a batch of bad keyboards sent out. I need to call Asus and see what they want to do, a replacement one for the G51 is $20, but the problem is it's black, and the G73's is silver/gray.
