Is anyone else experiencing this? I really, really would love to find a fix. I type at 100+ WPM casually, and it's starting to drive me insane. I've heard that uninstalling the touchpad drivers works, but I don't consider that an acceptable solution since I need that driver enabled for the function key to disable it to work properly. I'd really appreciate any solutions :/

search the keyboard thread here, should only be a page or two back. Several suggestions in there.

One thing you can try that helped on one of mine was cleaning the keyboard contacts on the ribbon cable... all the details are in the G73 keyboard thread.

    Welcome to the forums.

While I'm aware others are having keyboard issues, I don't have a problem with the keyboard on my G73JH, but then again I'm not a fast typist and since this is my first laptop, I don't have any preconceived expectations.

Do you suppose some part of the issue might have to do with not being use to the keyboard and typing a little to casually instead of more forcefully?

It's definitely got to do with typing quickly, and I know for a fact that I'm not missing the keystrokes myself. I really don't want to go voiding my warranty and risking messing crap up by cleaning a ribbon on a brand new laptop. Right now the touchpad is disabled in bios and it works just fine, but I'd prefer to not have to resort to that extreme of a measure. Isn't there a better solution? If the synamtpics driver is uninstalled it works as well, but then I'm unable to disable the trackpad with the function key which is even more annoying when I have a mouse plugged in. Blah.

A new keyboard has absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with the fact that a touchpad driver is conflicting with it.

Uninstall the stock synapics driver and install the newest generic one from their site. It fixed my dropped keys and my shortcut to disable and enable the trackpad still works.

I reinstalled the synaptic drivers that are found on the Asus site. That did help about 80% I still miss a key every once in a while, but not as bad as when I was using the drivers that came with the G73.

The only real fix, UNFORTUNATELY, is to completely uninstall the synaptic touchpad drivers. That means you will have no way of disabling the touchpad from the keyboard, so you will need to disable it in the BIOS. That is unacceptable, I know, but is the only way for a fast typist to type really fast on the G73. :(

I uninstalled my stock synaptics, downloaded the latest one from synaptics and it resolved my missing key strokes issue 99%. Plus, its got 2 finger scrolling among other things :D

P.s. I find it easier to disable the touchpad (Fn+F9 - I think), when Im in 'typing mode' and use a usb mouse. works better that way, since my palm may inadvertently come in contact with the touch pad.

I am running BIOS 209 and the latest Synaptic driver directly from Synaptic. I would agree that it solves 97% - 99% of the missed keystrokes, but they are still there. In my case, if I disable the touch pad in BIOS the problem is 100% gone. I use an external mouse almost all the time but I am annoyed that I have to disable the touch pad like that to work around a bug.

Sorry to bump up an old thread, but was a solution ever found for this problem? I disabled the touchpad drivers from bios for the first time, and sure enough, I'm typing x4 times as fast without missing a keystroke. I'll be using this computer for class soon, however, so I'll need to use the touchpad as well. Is there ANYTHING else out there that can fix this problem?

There are updated Synaptic drivers which "help" but not completely fix the problem. You should still probably find a small mouse to tote around with you. Good news is that we have someone as Asus "working" on the problem right now, we'll keep our fingers crossed.

Thanks for the quick reply rschauby,

I do have these drivers, and the problem did get a lot better, but nothing compared to the way I'm typing now (drivers disabled through BIOS). The issue with toting around a small mouse is that you need mouse space. When I'm sitting in class and already have this beast on my lap, I don't think it'll be very polite for me to spread my arms even wider to have mouse space (especially to the people sitting beside me). Unfortunate that there's no known fix yet. Everything's been great for me as far as this laptop goes, except the keyboard (squeaky spacebar + this issue). If anyone knows a fix (to either problem, actually), feel free to bump this thread.
