Hey all, I looked at some of the earlier forums but couldn't find specific answers to my newbie specific questions.

Just an FYI, I'm comfortable doing just about anything software-wise when given directions. But I'm a bit of a noob when it comes to hardware. Truth is that I've never really been able to afford the higher end stuff so I never really had to bother with learning about much of it.

I recently purchased a G73 bst7 and spent 6 hours getting rid of bloatware, installing favorite apps, anti-virus, etc... updating windows and all drivers + installing all my favorite games.

I ran the HWinfo application with the Unegine Heaven benchmark. Ran it for 25 minutes (it looped but never stopped). My highest temps were in the GPU and they never went over 70 degrees C. (It's approx 23-25 C in my home)
Is this normal? the fans never went over 30% speed. And the bios is at 211.
Same with running Civ V and ANNO 1404 at full res for hours.

My second question is more to the owners... do you have any recommendations on sleeves or cheap carrying cases for when I lug this thing in my car for Xmas break or other traveling. (obviously this won't move much but if I'm going out of town I'm taking it)

    Thanks!

I believe you have a good laptop since most laptops go over 90c usually. I don't know about the carrying cases but I am interested in the same laptop. Did you buy a laptop cooler? I'm wondering what you think about the monitor display angles and know which model it is?

Shay, the model is the one on sale at best buy. I chose one of the new ones G73-BST7 for $1199.

The screen is probably the biggest drawback for this laptop. It's quite large so if your face is close to the screen like mine is, it's not very forgiving. If your head goes up or down even 1" you start to notice the bottom is washed and the top is too dark. It's annoying but not unbearable, since you'll just move back or swivel the screen. And it's replaceable

Side to side is much better, I'd say average. Yet that's an advantage of it's size. My wife and I can sit next to each other and both see perfectly fine.

I did not buy a laptop cooler, which is why I'm questioning those temps. They're great, but maybe a bit too great? my sensors couldn't possible be all failing at the same time? what about maybe the HWinfo failing me? I just can't get it hot enough to go over 30% fan speed. (at least not with what I'm doing)

Mine always says 30% fan speed so that is ok. Furmark will give you re best idea of your temps. Run it for 10+ minutes and let us know the temps. It does sound like yours has exceptionally low temps. Maybe they improved the paste or something.

Just remember that Furmark will get hotter than games. Unless you intend to "play" Furmark a lot, it might be best to pretend it doesn't exist because its value is dubious.
