    hello

i'm interested into these two models ( or anything within my budget.. $1200)
Amazon.com: ASUS G73SW-XA1 Republic of Gamers 17.3-Inch Gaming Laptop (Black): Computers & Accessories
    and
    ASUS G73SW-XT1 Laptop Computer - Intel Core i7-2630QM 2.0GHz, 8GB DDR3, 500GB HDD, Blu-ray/DVDRW, 17.3 Full HD, Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit, Black, 2-Year Warranty / 1-Year Accidental Damage at TigerDirect.com

but i read some bad reveiws about G73 about 3 major issues
1- temps.. is it really getting so hot while playing games or on hight loads that affect it's performance?
2- monitor quality.. how is the colors and brightness? is it really a full hd so good mointor or wt ?
3- sound quality.. is it unusable ? wt if i used headphones or external speakers?

it has been long time searching to find the best suitable laptop for me and till nw i keep finding so bad reviews about all these laptops
specially about getting high temps !!

    my budget is $1100 - 1300
a friend will buy it for me who dont knw much stuff about computers.. so i hope that ur recommended models doesn't have problems that needs lots of tests to be sure that it doesn't exist in my laptop ( he will bring it then to my country ) - hope u recommend a site to buy it from as well

i will use it for CAD ( only 2d ) for 30% MAX of my time.. the rest is for movies ( hope i get cool bright colors for that )
    and games ( Zero hour - crysis - ... )

    wt i need is:
    i7 2630
gpu: gtx 460 at least ( but i hope to get 560 )
17" full hd with bright colors ( i hope to get that.. but if it is not within my budget on a stable system.. then i have to go with the hd+ ) Anti Reflection Screen is a GREAT plus

and the most important: to be stable.. no high temps or the degrade problem !!

    thnx in advance :)

    1) Temps on Nvidia 460M and 560M are very good provided the factory thermal paste application is decent. Which they are most of the times

    2) Its very good, ofcourse those who were spoiled by RGB goodness cant be helped. :D

    3) I found the sound on G73s very good plus the creative suit that comes with the SWs are decent once tweaked. The Altec Lansing speakers built into the laptop are very good too.

Human nature, when we have good times we forget to put it in words and let it be known. But when we have bad times we darn well make sure its heard loud and clear. :p So more complaints are natural to be seen/read/heard about any product.

Yeah I forgot to mention in the other thread that the sound on the g73 is very decent for a laptop. It's not unusable but don't be fooled by the 'subwoofer' - it adds a lot of good midrange but not really bass.

    Here's the other thread: http://forum.notebookreview.com/wha...believe-i-cant-find-stable-laptop-1200-a.html

I'm not going to close this one, but in the future it's not so cool to crosspost (post the same general question in multiple places). :)

... really? Where did you hear this? If you wanted an answer related to quality, you don't need to make up negative reviews.

Fwiw, they're all top-notch, especially when compared to most other computers. You need to spend 2x-3x more to get better on the screen, sound and temps.

Dont get the G73 in any form. There is G74 for $1199 at best buy (check it out at bestbuy.com) it has second generation i7, gtx 560, 8gb ram, and, i think, 1 TB hard drive at 7200 rpms. This bestbuy model is what you need. WHy by previous model with less powerful components??? Good luck!

But doesn't the G74SX come with a crippled 128Bit wide memory bus on the 560M GTX?

On my A2 the temperatures don't cause crashes or anything, but yes, they're high. A modern game can easily bring the GPU up to 90 degrees, no problem. I've had to RMA to get my GPU repasted, but since then no problems.

Monitor quality is a mixed bag for me. The 1080p resolution is nice, and the colours are just okay, IMO. Viewing angles are acceptable horizontally, but vertically they're rather terrible. I also seem to have developed a couple of "white spots" on my screen, and a piece of dust has worked itself underneath. This is after about a year's use.

Sound quality is excellent for a laptop. I generally use headphones, but the speakers are fine, and have surprisingly good bass for the size of the subwoofer.

RMA = Return merchandise authorization It means that I had to send my laptop in to Asus for repairs. I was unlucky, and I've had to send mine in 4 times - not because of temperatures, though, don't worry about that.

If your temps are too high, usually nothing will happen. This card is made to operate up to 110 degrees. If you exceed that you'll get crashes, slowdowns, and potentially damage to your computer. But it's very rare for there to be problems that serious.

And I'm not sure what you mean by "height reflective," sorry.

Oh. Well, yes, it's a glossy screen, so it's quite reflective. But it's nothing like a macbook pro or Alienware - there's no sheet of glass over the screen.
