All your questions have been answered before. Between G73 and Clevo, both have compromises. Neither is better than the other.

First off. The Asus G73 is the fastest notebook ever made that you can just walk into a store, buy, take home and out of the box.
    - Clevo's are custom notebooks, not out of the box. Built by resellers, warranty etc through them.
    - Alienware stock, is not as fast as G73, you have to pay more.

Cooling same. Both dual fan with all copper heatsink and heatpipes. Both use the same screen, same manufacturer and model. Build quality? Both are made to last, if you break either of them, you are a moron and deserve it for doing whatever idiotic think you may have done to break them.

    Comparison:

G73 is the lighter and sexier looking Notebook. Arguably one of the most eye catching, and attention notebook design ever... You will be noticed by anyone near you with this awesomeness. And also because it is giant, very large notebook. But at least people will say, it's sleek, sexy, futuristic, and stealthy looking.
    - G73 without any doubt in my mind, is the quietest high performance gaming notebook ever made
    - G73 you can use on your lap. It's the coolest notebook I've ever used. No other notebook has such cool temperatures on it's casing, it's incredible. The cooling system is made so you want block any cooling if used on your lap in bed, train etc.
    - G73 without any doubt, is the most affordable, best bang for the dollar Notebook EVER made. Period.\
    - Battery life is remarkable for i7 720QM, HD5870M 2 HDDs and 8GB of ram. Over 2 hours if you know what you are doing.
    - G73 has the industries best warranty only rivaled by MSI. 2 years parts and labor FREE. 1 year accidental (one case per notebook, spill coffee, drop a brick on it). 24/7 tech support free anytime. Free shipping back and forth from a FedEx location and repair center. Free 100% perfect screen 30 day warranty. No dead pixel, no nothing. Asus Warranty is FREE FREE FREE.

Clevo W870 is the heavier and clunkier looking notebook. You will get attention. It's HUGE, and among the thickest, only beaten by other Clevos. And no one will be saying wow, that is sleek or sexy, cause it looks like a gigantic brick.
    - W870CU is arguably one of the loudest notebooks ever made. The only notebooks louder are Alienware and other Clevos... no one makes em louder than Clevo. You think Dell makes their Notebooks? Yeah right...
    - W870CU cannot use on your lap with 3-4 different vent holes. Block any of them and the Clevo fans will rev up and heat up quick.
    - W870CU and like any other Clevos are the most expensive notebooks made. Nothing beats them in price, they are the king. Whether you go with reseller or rebrand, Clevo is top price notebook. Alienware while expensive often have promotions and deals making them far more affordable than a Clevo.
    - Clevos have the worst warranties in the industry. No accidental warranty. 2nd year, only labor is free, parts are not. Parts for Clevo, EXPENSIVE, GPU = up to $900. No screen warranty. You have dead pixel? Too bad, should have paid the extra $100 for the 30 day screen warranty. Clevo warranty through reseller or rebrand (ex. Sager) is PAY PAY PAY.
    - Battery life? Don't even bother.

But what can you say about Clevo? One of the best built notebooks you can find. No other notebook will provide the performance they can. You get what you pay for, you get excellent performance and build, arguably the best.

Both are notebooks are compromises. I think you compromise more with W870CU than you do with G73.

Clevo is also upgrade-friendly in almost every respect. Asus doesn't want you to upgrade the GPU, and makes special reverse MXM modules, whereas clevo uses standard ones.

But who are we kidding? GPU upgrades are for enthusiasts. If you're an enthusiast who wants to do GPU upgrades ... and want to get a great price on a computer, you're probably also able to upgrade anything with a processor in it. If you're an enthusiast with more money than brains and want to do easy upgrades, well ... clevo is good too.

I'd get a g73. In 2-3 years when the GPU isn't cutting it, you can get a new high end asus laptop for the amount of money you'd save/spend upgrading a clevo to top-end.

480M isn't that great. You could easily OC the 5870 to match the 480M stock. Heck, I've surpassed the 480M stock with my 5850. Get the G73.

Agreed with ziddy. Clevos are equipped with a little bit better cooling system. But in case of 480M with fantastic TDP 100W, this cooling system will give you 0 difference. G73 in all other aspects are way better for me. But choice is yours.

who says clevos are more expensive then other brands. their prices are on par with most brands and sometimes cheaper. clevo also have some sales but not too much, they dont need sales when their laptops are made good.

and about that $900 to upgrade the gpu, have you looked at Dell and their prices for any 8800m based gpu. its not the fault of the laptop maker when Nvidia charges people $900 for a gpu, blame Nvidia not the laptop manufacture.

oh yea, if you walk into any store (best buy anyone) and buy the Asus g73 your warranty is not going to be 2 years, it is a 1 year warranty with no 1 year accidental warranty which brings it down to the so called clevo with the "worst warranty in the industry". i guess that makes the entire industry the "worst". almost every laptop manufacture has a 1 year stock warranty.

they are both about the same in price and other things. overall pretty touch choice.

but overall clevo and Asus make one of the best laptops out there.

You are wrong. Asus provides 2 year of global warranty. 2 years with free labor and parts. BestBuy gives 1 year warranty for Asus laptops. Other official resellers 2 years.

With the same exact specs both will perform equally.
It all comes down to styling and build quality and while both are very good I would give the edge to CLEVO, it's built like a tank(looks like one too :))
Price wise getting one with the same components I'm sure you can get the ASUS a little cheaper.
Styling goes to the ASUS, it just looks amazingly cool.
The CLEVO looks good if your into the built like a tank look.
Both cooling systems are very good with the edge going to the CLEVO but like some members have said it comes with a price, it's pretty loud , not annoyingly loud but still louder than the ASUS.
If I had too pick between the two I would still probably get the ASUS, one big reason is the backlit keayboard which I think all premium laptops should come with standard.

well thanks for the info guys, i just liked the fact the the clevo had the usb 3.0. but now knowing it doesnt even have backlight keyboard, thats a huge turn off.... I really wish the G73 would have came with at least an Esata if it didnt come with an express slot.
there is so much un used room on the g73. i wish they would have added more ports. hopefully the refresh will help this... or even 5.1 sound card or something.....

thats my biggest dissapointment, is that there is just soo much room,,
    no usb 3.0
    no esata
    no express slot
no 5.1 surround (most expensive lappys at this price range usually have it)

since it is a desktop replacement, they should ahve included these.... but i guess the style makes up for it. and the back light.... i just want more ports. and i wish the CPU was easier to get at.... id love to switch that out eventually.

Also don't forget that the G73 comes with a subwoofer. It just gives that little extra to your sound IMO.

Want my opinion? get an alienware :D (if you can afford it)

If you want the most bang for your buck, def get the g73jh ...

I wouldn't get the clevo unless you're not moving that thing further than from floor to floor within your own house lol. Its beast, and gives a new meaning to desktop replacement.

Just to mention- in Europe G73 comes with an express card slot- google G73JH-TZ037V to find the exact specs.

I just checked xoticpc. Looks like they are trying to sell out the W870CU for the sale of the W880CU. The price with a HD5870M is very competitive. But IMO you still lose on the cooling and the battery life.

Clevos cooling is much better - the temperatures are MUCH lower, but it is louder.

Really depends, I disagree. I'm gaming now with 800/1200 and my temps are holding steady at around 82C.

And cooling isn't just about temperature. G73jh has the best cooling system of any high performance notebook for me. The bottom never gets hot. I don't have to worry about blocking vents and the noise level is fantastic.

So I have to disagree, G73jh cooling is much much better Clevo. And Ken has found a way to make G73jh temperature just as good as Clevo, if not better.

He uses a very thin layer of IC Diamond thermal paste. I'm guessing he probably replaces the thermal pads also, not sure. I used OCZ Freeze. If I had to do it again, I'd do the IC Diamond + Thermal pad replacement.
