    Hi, fellow G73 owners,

I noticed that in my device manager of the G73 I just purchased from bestbuy, the wifi is atheros AR9285. But ASUS website driver page for G73 only has 2 intel wifi drivers.

Anyone know why is that? A mistake on ASUS website? or bestbuy's model use different wifi than the normal ASUS model?

Interesting, you are correct on both points. Never noticed since I didn't download any drivers. I did just upgrade to the Intel 6300 N Wireless card and it works well.

I'm sure you can get the AR9285 drivers elsewhere if you need to. Search the forum, many guides on fresh Win7 installs so there's bound to be driver info there.

    Cheers,

Yeah I noticed as well that Asus doesn't have the Atheros drivers, but I managed to get the latest Atheros drivers(9.0.0.125) if you guys are interested.
Just let me know if you need me to upload them .

I bought it from the NBR Marketplace -- here.

I prefer the Intel brand and I like to mod my systems (added blu-ray too).

Replacing it was very easy in the G73. Disconnect the laptop from power and remove the battery. Remove the two screws to the panel covering the hard drives. The wifi card is under there as well. The Intel card supports 3 antennas but the G73 only has two. carefully remove the two antennas. They are on pretty tight so just be sure not to rip them off. Unscrew the two screws holding down the wifi card. Slide out the old card and slide in the new. Screw it down and reattach the antennas.

You can then either install the Intel software or just let windows prompt for the driver only (I did this) and browse the CD to the Win7 64bit driver. It will install and you will be back up wireless. I tested both 2.4 and 5 frequencies and they work well. According to other posts on this forum you won't get full speed w/o the third antenna but that's one mod too far for me. :)

    Cheers,

For a pictured tutorial, see the G73 disassembly guide here:
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/asus/475907-asus-g73-series-disassembly-guide.html

If you want to take advantage of the 6300's full capabilities, you can buy an extra antenna from ebay (make sure it can receive 5GHz frequencies and not just 2.4GHz) and route it through the chassis and around and behind the screen bezel.

I suggest the 6200 (It matches the 2 antennas on the G73JH), it's working very well.
