I have heard that if you do a clean wipe that the Windowns 7 key on the back of the laptop is not working. Can anyone confirm or deny the rumor? I would like to get rid of all the Bloatware, but don't want to be screwed with this fresh install.

You'll have to activate your windows by phone if i'm not mistaken. There' a guide on how to do a clean win 7 install on the forums, written by kalim based on the g73.
I'd post the link, but browsing the forum is kind of a pain on a ipod, let alone using the search function. Either do a search for it or find a post by kalim, the link is in his sig.
EDIT: You could also uninstall the bloatware, there's an asus bloatware guide in the asus info booth sticky. -
Thanks, i'll def look into it before i do anything.

It works if you use a Windows 7 Home Premium OEM install disk. You can get those on torrents but just make sure you don't get a cracked version. You don't need a cracked OEM version of Windows if you're installing with your own product key.

The clean install guide using recovery disk (use kalim guide for instructions) doesn't require you are ask you for the registration key.

There is also a program called "Activation Backup and Restore" that will allow you to back up your LEGALLY REGISTERED COPY of windows. you can then do a clean install, run the program to restore your activation without calling Microsoft or using the key on the bottom of your machine. There is a beta that supports windows 7, and the program is free.

You can get a windows 7 ISO from here, the official microsoft distribution site.
And any windows loader will do the same thing as the ABR - just install windows with the key on the bottom (it will install but not authenticate) and use the loader to install the certificate with your key.
Alternatively, you can use this: Backup your asus(whatever).xrm-ms certificate, then on the fresh install, copy it to your C:\ and type "slmgr -ilc C:/Asus(WHATEVER).xrm-ms". Then type "slmgr -ipk XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX", inserting your key.
