I bough the Intel Centrino 6230N Advanced a few days ago and i've realised some problems that people told me would not happen before i bough the card.
Basically i got about 10 devices connected at most times, 4 PCs, 2 ATV2's, 2 PS3s, 1 iPad, 3 touchpads, so i decided to put the deviced that could on the 5Ghz band.
My main problem is between my G73 and my EEEPC 1015PED that has my 3TB MyBook connected to it which acts as a media server for all my media devices in the house. My G73 is on the 5Ghz band but my EEE is only on the 2.4ghz because it's not dual-band. When both devices are on 2.4Ghz band, the transfer speed between both, in large files such as movies, is at about 2.5 to 3mb/s. As soon as i switch my G73 on 5Ghz and transfer files, the speed drops to 1.25 to 1.75mb/s. Something that a network tech told me would not happen. He told me that the speeds would slightly increase but never decrease.
Also i've realised that my 5Ghz band is pretty unstable. As of now, it only has my Apple TV 2 connected to it and my G73. The connection drops a few times a day on the 5Ghz but my 2.4Ghz band is always operationnal. I've also realized that when connected to 5Ghz, places where i would usually get 100% signal drops to 60 or 80% and goes back up to 99% and usually plays roller coaster with the signal. I am aware that the 5Ghz connection has less penetrating power and it's normal that it's not as strong but my laptop never moves, nor does my environment but the signal does more around often.
I don't know if this adapter has a firmware or is it simply drivers but in any case i have the latest drivers installed. FYI my router is a Linksys WRT400N

5GHz has a shorter range, and maybe you should check if your channels are being used by someone else.

nobody uses my channels, i have norton enterprise that monitors my wifi and alerts me when someone is trying to connect, all devices are mac enabled and i use a 256bit encryption key

[Wireless] WRT400N issues with latency only on 5 GHz band - Linksys | DSLReports Forums
I've had very good luck with the high end Netgear routers as well. Linksys seems to be a bit glitchy these days. Have you tried to find a friend who uses a different 5Ghz router to test that out?
Cheers,
