I have recently formatted my g73 last thursday then I have updated the drivers and windows updates. Everything was fine but on friday I had a microsoft update

Security Update for Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable Package (KB2467173)
    Download size: 8.6 MB
You may need to restart your computer for this update to take effect.
    Update type: Important
A security issue has been identified leading to MFC application vulnerability in DLL planting due to MFC not specifying the full path to system/localization DLLs. You can protect your computer by installing this update from Microsoft. After you install this item, you may have to restart your computer.

after I have updated with this I restarted my laptop then I played Dota after about 30mins I got a bsod. Then I played from my friends computer, He said he wanted to try the witcher after the oppening movie the g73 crashed again another bsod. Then when I was finish with the dota game and wanted to examine the problem, I turn on the g73 after it booted and the gadgets where out. The laptop closes all the program like its going to shutdown then before it shutdown I got a bsod. So I was thinking whats the problem and thought of maybe it was the Microsoft update, I restored it to the time the update was not installed and my g73 is running fine. My dilemma now is do I need this patch? because i'm scared that it will make the g73 crash again.

See if you can get a standalone installer for the patch. I find these installers are more reliable than the web download versions.

Also Windows updates are primarily unnecessary for most of us who don't download IMG_0518.JPG.EXE from that unknown person who added us on Facebook with a suspiciously hot picture ;)

Wrong. Updates fix security holes which can be exploited to gain access to your computer.

I am aware. I'm sure you're aware that Windows Update has a history and reputation of being absolute crap, too.

Yo, I guess I get now why I end up on lock ups. I updated my OS BUT* I don't have the SP1, maybe that's the sign of incompatibility issues here.
Right now I installed the SP1 and will monitor things as of now (you need to install some earlier updates for you to see the SP1 option).
I also checked out those stand alone updates and read that they were included in SP 1.

Do you have your Windows 7 SP 1 installed or not yet?

I would say see my second post, but either I forgot to hit submit, or it got deleted by a mod. I don't see why it would have, though.

What I said was I know that's not really correct, however Windows Updates are known, on the whole, to be absolute garbage.

If you are crashing with that update, you can skip it. Not compatible. Or if you insist you can try chastity's suggestion :)
I'm still monitoring my G73 after the SP1 update and as of now no crashes or BSOD.
