Running on 10.7a since they have been out without problems. On older drivers never had any GSODs. No creative installed, or any bloatware.
So today I unplug my laptop from AC, after which the display still worked fine. Then after a minute I noticed that my powerplan was still on Power4Gear Entertainment (I was playing a movie at the time with BS player, not sure if this is at all relevant) I then manually switch to Power4Gear Battery Saving and w7 starts switching the aero theme and what not and when the screen comes back up the colors are all messed up and inverted on the right half of the screen and the left half of the screen just displays vertical colored lines. So i tried a reboot, but that didnt help. Infact, even during the booting fase the display was showing the same symptoms.
So i tried hooking it back up to my external monitor through the HDMI port, and that works fine, the laptop is fully useable on the external monitor, just not the actual laptop screen. :/
I have already tried uninstalling 10.7a through the devicemanager (which showed no problems with the display adapter) and reinstalling it, but no cure.
Since the screen shows the same problem during bootup I'm thinking its not the GPU but the screen itself. Could you recommend me some ways of troubleshooting the device and hopefully fixing it?
Thanks.
Here are some pics of what my display looks like now :S
edit: I say i have never had any GSODs, but i also have to add that i never did any extensive gaming on it. I have played half of the single player from COD5 on it and 30 mins of Mass Effect 1 without any problems.

Ack... sorry man, but that looks like a PSOD (Psychedelic Screen of Death). As far as I know the screen must be replaced and you have to have an RMA.
Maybe a more knowledgeable forum poster has a fix, but I'm relatively certain... -

Maybe the screen or the lvds cable.
You have warranty right? -
Yeah I assume I have warranty sine I bought it new 2 months ago. But I never filled out any forms and sent them to asus or did an online registration.
RMA'ing is going to be a huuuge pain tho. I bought the laptop ib Singapore and I live in Thailand and Asus Thailand doesnt sell the G73. Also I work on the internet and dont have a proper backup pc, .
Any ideas on how a screen just break like that out of nowhere? Like i said it was working fine until i changed the power profile. -

It's probably worth putting together a cheap desktop so that you have something to use while you get the G73 fixed. Or maybe even a netbook.
-
Your LCD panel died, only way to fix it is to replace it -> RMA.
If Asus Thailand doesn't sell the G73, then get prepaired to wait 2-4 weeks, or more. -
It's so pretty.
-
So how long do RMA's normally take? I'm considering keeping it until october when I will be back home for a month in The Netherlands. Also in order to apply for the warranty, should i have filled out those forms or online registration or is the invoice sufficient?

I would suggest you contact Asus Customer Service and let them answer your questions.

RMAs seem to depend. My previous Asus had problems with cracking around the hinges. When I dealt with the vendor that sold my previous A8JM, I had to wait two weeks. When I dealt directly with Asus (the vendor had gone backrupt) the whole thing was sorted out four days, and that included the laptop being sent halfway across Canada and back!

Make sure you specify that you have the asus 360 warranty. I've been waiting 3 weeks for an RMA, and finally called them to ask why the 2-day target was now 15 business days. Turns out, if you don't tell them you've got the 360 warranty, they take as long as they want...
-
really? its a 2 business day target? that's awesome if it takes around a week to get fixed back in my hand

Welcome to the PSOD club
Mine took two weeks. Not sure what the lead times are for other countries though.

Hey guys. Im from Poland. I had PSOD 3 weeks ago. I sent my G73JH to service in Poland and they repaired my notebook in 1 week. Problem was LCD. I bought G73jh in april and 3 months after (no BSODs,GSODs earlier) I had that failure. Now I have new LCD hannstar (20 week / 2010). Good Luck with repair "o4584"
Now the main problem with my g73 are temps... 70*C idle and 106*C furmark (after 1hour) but I will repaste with IC diamond 7 this week. Cheers
BTW. If I repaste my g73jh gpu, will I lose warranty? I didnt spot there any warranty plomb (I saw only yellow on cpu )? What do u guys think? -

Only if you break something. -
"Only if you break something."
Thank you m8 for fast reply. I ordered IC diamond 7 today and w8ing for it. Did u change thermal pads on RAM section ? or only core? -
I only repasted; the pads looked decent and placed properly, so I left them alone.
