Hi, I'm having an issue with my G73 that i cant seem to find any answers to. The problem is that when i play a game, say BFBC2 or empire by comparison, the game kind of stutters, it flows perfectly for a short period then freezes for like 1-2 seconds, and that just repeats all the time in both games. Is this a performance issue? I've tried running these games on different settings, the same problem persists.
I have tried with the latest drivers from nvidia, and asus update says there are no newer drivers. What else can i do? anyone having a clue where the problem is? I would be very grateful, this is driving me nuts.

First forget about Asus update.
Probably your CPU is throttling.
Download ThrottleStop from techinferno, launch it, turn it on and minimize it to keep it running.
See if it does fix the stutter now.
All sandy bridge G notebooks have this issue, were all forced to rely on TS to stop the crazy throttling.
Also how are your temps? -
Ok, so i trired TS, thanks for the advice. I turned it on, minimized, ran empire. Still the same issue
. Even the intro is not continues, its jumpy and slow... about the temperature, according to TS the cpu temp is steady around 60 degrees and max 90 . Too high?

Because if its not HOURS then definitely your problem is thermal throttling. Your cpu should stay around 40-50 while idling and max 70 under load.
If youre reaching 90c max then probably youre hitting that temp soon while ingame.
I advice to further investigate it, if that turns out to be true then you need to repaste your laptop.
Or simply use compressed air in the vents to dust it out, probably something is clogging up your system. -
Use that topic , do this soft can improve performance ? Is it kinda like a " forced turboboost " ?

Every G series notebook have the throttling problem. Basically the cpu goes from lower state to upper state without reason, repeadtly, its like "jumping", which actually is.
So yes, TS helps alot. It makes you able to use your cpu at his fullest without being throttled down without reason.
Even G74Sx's are subjected to these problems. Its definitely a must have program. -
Ok, the dust is gone! Quite a lot of it came out actually
seems like it made a difference too! the comp is much cooler and the lags do not occur as often anymore. They still do, but this is a large improvement! I'm wondering of more easy adjustments could make the problem go away totally..

Which G73 you own? ATI or Nvidia?
-
Thanks for your answer , never seem to have that issue on mine ... I mean , games that are demanding like BF3 or Crysis 2 have fps going down outside and up inside , and games that are not very demanding like League of Legend are always 60 FPS , never freeze or else.
I may give it a try someday to see if there is a performance boost -
Its the nvidia version. Gtx 460 1,5 g ddr5. G73JW i think its called... i wouldnt expect it to perform super on demanding games, but i mean empire and BFBC2? i would expect more from this machine which looks good on paper, it should definetely do better than it does on these games!..

Definitely it should. Which kind of CPU you have? It's hard to make a comparison with mine, as I'm running the newer 2630qm, which performs like the old 920xm at 3ghz.

Its the Q740 i7 processor. Actually now the performance has improved drastically since last post. Cleaning the comp from dust and using TS on "gaming" settings made it alot faster. There are still minor freezes like before, but not very often. Maybe its something i can live with, unless anyone has further suggestions on improvement. Thanks kingpinzero, for helping out with this trivial newbie stuff

Np man, now it's all about tweaking your settings
G73, odd FPS lags
