G737- Horrible Framerates - Need Help

If this isnt the right place to post for this please point me in the right direction.

I have a G73JH-X3 I bough to play WoW (about a month ago). I chose this one because I wanted smooth frame rates with all the eye candy but my FPS are around 10-24. Turning shadows down all the way and textures to about half increases it to the 35-50 range, but friends with less powerful computers are getting FPS well above 60.

I asked on the blizzard forums and followed some of the recommendations. I'm using Game Booster, there are no power saving features enabled in windows and everything is set for performance I also tried updating the ati drivers.

I've been running warhammer for the past half hour to get it warmed up to check the temps:

Mine plays Crysis with everything up all the way at like 32fps. (1600x900)

You on battery? I have friends that play WOW on laptops with less then half the specs of this and they can play it with everything up all the way at like 80-100 fps.

 

I'm always plugged in.

 

I would also not use gamebooter. Ive heard nothing but bad things about it and with a machine with 8gb of ram, saving another 15mb while in a game isnt going to do anything. I would remove that first and foremost, then retest everything again.

For my system do these frame rates sound normal on this game? Someone told me that playing WoW on my machine would be like using a jet fighter just to cross the street.

 

WoW is just a headache for constant playable FPS. Overall, my FPS never moves from 60 but go to Dalaran and it will drop. Doesn't matter how powerful your machine is the FPS will drop with a heavily populated place. It is a lot of load and it is a combination from the server, latency, CPU, and GPU when there are massive amounts of people in a city.

All the tweaks for CPU affinity, core detect, etc only help slightly but this will always be a problem until Blizz can figure it out.

*To be honest, Blizz should instance the major cities.

 

I agree with you, but having my FPS drop to an average of 10 when in dalaran on a machine with a radeon hd 5870, intel i7 and 8 gigs of ram? I don't think i should have to lower my video settings on a 6 year old game just to make it playable. Even in zones/continents with very little people on it my FPS were hovering around 24-29.

 

keep in mind the 5870 mobile is the same as the desktop 5770

a quick google search and it seems some people are having the same issue with the 5770..

i agree it seems low though, but if you research down the 5770 dekstop part path you might have better luck finding a solution.

 

i also own a G73JH-A1 and would like to know about what you mentioned here (GAME BOOTER) .Is it a programme and how can i disable it ?

What I was using is called Game Booster. It's just a utility that stops unneeded background processes to free up memory and the processor. I just googled it to download it but as he said, our systems dont really need it.

Well my fps in Dalaran never goes below 30fps.

 

I have a G73JH-A2 and I've recently started to play WoW again, however, I am not experiencing the FPS issues that you have.

I play windowed at 1680x900, 8x multisampling, vertical sync turned off. All effect settings maxed except shadows (which is set to the lowest setting), 'Projected Textures' is the only check box I have checked in that menu.

I get around 30-50 FPS in Dalaran. The lowest I have seen my FPS drop is on 25 man Blood-Queen Lana'thel, where it dropped to 25 FPS. Outside of 25 man raids and Dalaran, I get anywhere from 75-200 FPS depending on the area.

I was running ATI 10.5 drivers at the time I saw the above FPS statistics, I have updated to 10.6 today but have not played WoW any due to maintenance, so I am unsure if my FPS will increase or decrease with the new drivers.

Try the settings I use and see what kinds of results you get as far as FPS. If you still have issues I would RMA your unit for a new one, as it may be a faulty GPU.

 

That's like blaming your ferrari for traffic lights. You *can* drive as fast as you want, but the world around you (lag/ping/server side issues) will slow down your game.

Play *any* other game and you'll find great FPS. Blame WoW for the bad experience, not the g73.
