Yes, you are right, i made a little blunder saying 2D clock, it was clock changes to improve 2D, my mistake, but this is the email you are referring to right?
Dear Customer,
Your service request : # has been reviewed and updated.
Response and Service Request History:
The mobility drivers from AMD are a reference grade driver, if there are any issues with these drivers you should be reverting to the laptop manufacturers drivers.
With the newer drivers there was an adjustment to the base core and clock speeds of the chipsets to address issues with 2D playback and this may be what is causing your systems instability.
I have directed your feedback to the Catalyst Crew Team, the driver developers, so they can look into the issue. If Asus has reported the problem the will be working on it already.
In order to update this service request, please respond, leaving the service request reference intact.

And again the second mail so you have the full picture together:
Dear Customer,
Your service request : # has been reviewed and updated.
Response and Service Request History:
All of the OEM cards are built to specifications from the specific system builder. Only the chipsets is an AMD product, all other parts are what is selected by the OEM. It may be a simple difference of the memory manufacturer or how far they have decided to set the standard core/clock speeds on the chipset.

After calling enough times i got through and just got off the phone with the representative director from our Asus distribution/repair center and he honestly admitted he knows about the GSOD (he ASSURED me there are sadly absolutely NO 100% working GSOD free Asus GPUs), keyboard missing keystrokes and Creative issue and that Asus knows and just yesterday promised him a solution (he called Asus just yesterday as he claims) for the GSOD issue to be released soon, probably in the form of a new vBios.
The official reply from Asus for now though is that, as you already know, you should use the official stock drivers, but he said he knows and understands how outrageous it is not being able to use the new drivers and that it cant go on like this and that in all his time this is the laptop with the most problems hes seen and he understands how one can be furious spending 2000€ on it and get such a brick.
I told him that they Asus the exact same thing with the W90 model and the new vBios didnt completely fix the issue, but he does not know about that and just said that he only knows what Asus promised him and hopes it will solve the GSODs.
Now i dont know what "soon" means for Asus or if it will fix the problems or if it will be just a placebo like the W90 vBios update, but thats the info i got. Feel free to interpret it as you wish.
I wont hold my breath becouse ive had enough dissapointments from Asus already. -
Hmm, fascinating. DReven will have lots of ammo for his article. Seeing success with other vBIOS from other companies, I am hopeful that it is possible. I'd love to betatest.

Asus may not be the biggest laptop seller by marketshare, but they are still a huge global corp. with many irons in the fire. It is just a matter of time before these problems are corrected. But in the meantime, holding their feet to the fire can't hurt, with constant RMAs, Returns and bad internet press, they will be goaded into hurrying things along... -
Thanks for the update HellCry, it's very much appreciated. I'm a bit optimistic myself... hopefully it will come within a few weeks, but I'm certain that it will come eventually. There are too many people buying the g73jh (heck, check out the gamefaqs ffxiv board- I've spotted several people buying this laptop just for that game) for them to risk the mass outrage and the hit to their PR that never offering some sort of solution would cause.
But... yeah. Let's hope the solution is sooner rather than later. -
I was not trying to be nitpicky though, some people were starting a discussion concerning 2D clocks/stability (originating from the message you received from Ati) and I thought that might be misleading direction so I had to interfene

I just read in a German notebook forum, that a user got a new BIOS version 211 from the support. ( Link). He hasn't uploaded it yet, but hopefully he will do it soon as some users already requested it.
-
ampedconfusion - and lets hope its done right also
-
Yes, let's hope so.
Very interesting link bluecoala... as they said on the German forum, let's hope it's publicly released soon -and- actually fixes things.
Another interesting note about the German forum (I don't speak German, but google translate comes in handy)- it seems like they're just like us in being on the verge of organizing a group letter to Asus (on this page: ASUS G73 *Part 2* (Owners Thread ) - Seite 243 - Notebookjournal.de - Forum) in response to the ongoing issues. Hah, if I could speak to them, I'd ask if they were interested in somehow making it a joint effort.
-
Seems like Asus Germany likes to leak new BIOS, since they made the 209 BIOS public weeks before the official release too
And I have to ask again...what happened to BIOS 210? -
show me the BIOS! I'd LOL if it has a kb light fix
