    hiya

just wanted to ask you guys whether G73J's so called HD display/graphic card is really HD at 1920x1080?
i mean, it's really NOT sharp enough to be HD in my eyes ...
when i though connect it via HDMI to my HDTV, the video & picture are looks to be much better and sharper.

is there anyway i could change the settings and make it sharper?

    thanks

when you are connecting to your tv you are conecting through the video card
you can't compare for example plasma TV with lcd screen on the laptop
and also maybe you have the best buy version screen which is not 1080p

Good Point By Mite_Jan, Also if you have the JH-A1 or A2 (Full HD panel) check display in CP- Make sure it is set to 100%

I think Full HD is very "sharp" for a 17" screen, it wouldn't make much sense to have a higher resolution in a gaming notebook. You are maybe talking about the brightness / colour?

    cheers mates ...

well, its the FRYS version :)

    JH-A1
    1920x1080 @ 60Hz
    display 100%

check display in CP ... what you mean josea? :)

    @crogge
i dont use the laptop for gaming.
i do a lot of video & picture works, and i dont find it very sharp at all,
even if i run 1080p vid files or on youtube. also when i print my jpgs on photopapers, its sharper than what i see on the display!

so anyway i could fix this or is it a common issue for JH-A1?

pff you don't know what you are talking
either your screen is damaged , either you can't see very well , either you have some video tweak enabled
the only thing when the screen is not sharp is when you dont have drivers installed and it is not 1080p resolution
g73jh display is superior compared to other laptops

i can assure you that i can see very well :)

    display @ 100% (Smaller, default)
    screen resolution @ 1920x1080 / 60Hz
    brightness @ full

its just that its not completely perfect HD sharp, slightly blurry for my eyes = vids/jpgs
and it's always been like this from day one!

if you say G73JH-A1 has a superior quality display then something is not right with my setup, no?
please help me find it and fix it.

    thank you.

maybe you just need to change your laptop's screen mode. you can do so by pressing the last button on upper left hand corner(splendid video enhancement) to choose options gamma correction, vivid, theater, soft and normal mode. hope this helps....

    Umm, okay.
    1. Either that's just an upscaled SD video, or your codecs and/or media player is messed up. What are you using to play it?
    2. The photo is identical in both pics and looks perfectly fine. If it looks blurred to you, please post an actual photo of your display with that photo.
    3. Same with the Youtube video. The screenshot is identical to what is in the video. The video itself isn't very HD though, probably upscaled.

Here is a test pattern to test sharpness. Do the vertical and horizontal lines look sharp?

well, the screenshot looks blurrier than the video itself.
is there anyway i could check video-file's property?
i am using jetAudio 8.0.16, the other players WMP (Klite), Real ... has more or less the same result.

    2. The photo is identical in both pics and looks perfectly fine. If it looks blurred to you, please post an actual photo of your display with that photo.
if i understood you correctly, that was (2. HD Photo) the desktop display shot with the pic!
btw, as i did mention in my earlier post whether or not we agree with the jpg sharpness on display,
when i print any picture on photopapers they turn out to be sharper than the display ... what do you say about it?

Here is a test pattern to test sharpness. Do the vertical and horizontal lines look sharp?

didnt understand much of that test though ... but yes, they look normal/sharp to me.

what i'm trying to tell you mates ... the display doesnt look really blur=blur,
but it DOESNT look HD to me either ... even 1080i @ 1366x768 HDTV Ready gives me sharper vid/pic than this :)

    1. Try playing the video in VLC to rule out any codec issues. You can also use it to view the media properties.
If you have Media Player Classic or MediaInfo installed, you can use those too to check the properties.

    2. So the test pattern looks sharp, meaning there is nothing wrong with your display. But you are comparing the sharpness of the pic with it printed on paper??
I assume that you printed the pic on A4 sized paper or less, which is a lot smaller than the laptop's 17 inch screen, so obviously the physically smaller picture is going to look sharper. It's going to look even more sharp if the pic is higher resolution than 1920x1080.

There is no way a 1080i signal downscaled to a 1366x768 display is sharper than the laptops's 1080p display. Try the test and see for yourself.

...Unless you have a different definition of "sharpness" than the rest of us. Perhaps you like it when the display is more pixelized? Try turning off ClearType and see if you like it better that way. (Type ClearType in the start menu, you'll find it.)
