I have an Asus G73JH-A1, and a number of 1080p mkv files that I wanted to test out on my new tv. I've tried playing them in DivX plus player, gom player, Media player classic, etc... I also installed CCCP codecs, and can't seem to escape the block-artifacts that happen all over the screen. The CPU barely breaks a sweat, at 9-12%. I am running win7-64 bit, and I have all the latest drivers I believe.
These are movies a friend lent me on his external hard drive, and they all seem to do the same thing, some more than others... and if I rewind, the artifacts happen at the same place in the movies, so it's not random. Could this be from corrupt files, or a poor setup to run 1080p movies?
Attached are some screenshots.
Thanks for any input.

Make sure to use the version of MPC-HC that CCCP has installed.
After that, please open the file in CCCP's MPC-HC and tell me what is listed in the menu: Play-> Filters. -
Player: v1.5.0.2827. I'm not sure how to tell if it is using CCCP. Would the view>render settings>display help? I don't see CCCP listed in there anywhere.
Would any particular filter info in the play>filters help? I have :

The version you have in the screenshot is not the one that CCCP has installed.
Use this one: Start-> Programs-> Combined Community Codec Pack-> Media Player Classic Homecinema.
I would also recommend you to re-install the latest CCCP and do not install any other codecs, nor any 64-bit/x64 codecs or other media player.
After that, again please tell me what is in the Play-> Filters menu with a screenshot as you have just done.

ooh wait... I see there is a MPC-HC in the CCCP menu. I am still experiencing artifacts in that. I'll add the details in a second....
build number: 1.5.2.3268
I just installed the latest CCCP today, as well as MPC-HC, so they should both be the latest versions.

Hmm interesting. I tried running about 5 different movies and they all seem to have artifacts. I tried copying them to the local hard drive too, to make sure it's not a usb2 throughput issue, but no avail.
Thanks for the input though! -
One thing I forgot - you could try do a reset of settings.
Start-> CCCP-> CCCP Setttings-> Next-> Tick reset and re-register, click apply and then yes.
Still, I would generally suspect the file since ffdshow video decoder is being used and listed in that "Filters" menu during playback - not to mention all of the other video players that seemed to be experiencing the same issue. -
Do you have those artifacts only on the TV or also on your laptopscreen?
If it's only the TV, then it also might be the cable which is at fault here.
Why AMD driver do you have installed? -
Are those movies ripped? If so, it might be a problem with the ripper. If possible, you can try borrowing / buying a BD player to confirm whether it is the film's issue or your hardware issue.
Honestly, my money is on the film. -
+1 to a problem with the files. Recently I tried to trim down some video files and that exact thing (what you are calling artifacts) happened to me when the bitrate wasn't high enough.

In that case please try the latest 11.6 Mobility Driver which is available on the AMD website.
If you use that driver, please also install the latest graphic card vbios, linked in this forum, or you'll have huge problems.
Here the Link to the vbios: http://forum.notebookreview.com/asus-gaming-notebook-forum/515309-how-fix-your-gsod-blues.html -
Ok, I installed Catalyst 11.6, and flashed my vbios to 012.020... and am still experiencing the same issues with all the files.
I then reset the CCCP settings as described above, and, still blocky on all the mkv files.

i'm new to this thread but in the screencap posted above it clearly says you're not using DXVA for HD rendering which i'm assuming is causing your problem..
I recommend you uninstall all codecs installed as well as MPC > then clean registry and then reinstall MPC-HC and use the inbuilt h264 decoder as that supports DXVA without any config needed..
Once you get that working we can move onto using CCP or microsoft DTV-DVD for some picture quality improvements..
Also, I Dont believe you've mentioned whether youre using x86 or x64 versions of the player and codecs.. If you's installed the x64 MPC-HC and the x86 CCP, it wont work... -
DXVA is less reliable than software decoding. I would never recommend DXVA unless your CPU is an Atom or similar processor which doesn't have the grunt to decode video in real-time by itself. -
I just tried another video, and I ran through about 10 min of it and have yet to see any artifacts. I think that one of the original assumptions of a number of the files having minor corruptions in them, may be what we're dealing with.
All has not been a waste though, as the AVCHD video he sent, plays without jitters now (in WPM12 or CCCP-MPC-HD). And the ones that have no audio in WMP12, seem to play fine in CCCP-MPC-HC.
Thanks guys! -

That's a file issue.
