    Hi all.
I have had my G73JH for a few years now and have survived with the stock video drivers. I tried to update a few times, but generally went back to stock after some crashes. In any case, I have a couple of games that will nto run at all, so I tried the latest Catalyst drivers, 13.1.
So far, if I am surfing, I have no problems, but games will typically crash after various amounts of time. Usually this is a gray screen with the machine actually locked up. Sometimes, the driver will stop and Windows will recover it, usually crashing the game in the process.
I have gone through the process of uninstalling the AMD drivers using the the AMD uninstall tools, then using Driver Sweeper to clean the system before running the new Catalyst 13.1 installer. I have also updated the BIOS to the latest on the ASUS site.

Any ideas? I have seen mention on much older threads about updating the VBIOS, but that seemed to fix a different problem than I am having. I can go back to the stock drivers from ASUS, but I am trying to find a better solution. Thanks.

A grey screen is usually a memory error if I remember correctly which does suggest that the clocks are not being handled properly, I think updating the Vbios might be worth a shot.

Meaker is spot on, install Hwinfo64 - Video BIOS Version: 012.020.000.032.038352 (Chastity's classic version) should allow 13.1 to work perfectly.

Thanks for the replies. In my searches for the VBIOS update, the thread is from 2010. Is that still the most recent info? Thanks again. I will give this a shot when I can!

EDIT: I see the info in the sticky on this forum. So, I will read up there. Thanks again.

As stated, you probably need the vBIOS update. Leave 13.1 installed, and run the updater from a bootable DOS USB stick. The VBIOS page on ROG forums also has a link for the utility to make a bootable stick.

Thanks for the help all and especially Chastity. I have applied your vBIOS update and it went off without a hitch. In my usage including some gaming to this point, I have had no problems. So far so good. If I have any more problems, I will respond again, but if you dont hear frgom me, assume I am doing well.
    Thanks again!
