Occasionally in Windows 7, I'll get a 1-2 minute lock up where I can move the mouse but nothing responds. Mozilla shows that it is not responding, I cannot minimize any windows, and the windows Start button does not even highlight when I run my mouse over it. If I sit back and wait for 1-2 minutes, everything comes back to normal. It may occur again later, but the problem seems to occur within a couple minutes of either turning on the laptop or bringing it back from Sleep mode. Once I'm in an application, such as a game (League of Legends, Starcraft 2, Metro2033, Crysis 2), I have never had a lock up.

Let me add that when I first received the laptop, I did not have any problems. I reformatted when I installed a Crucial M4 SSD, and these problems began some time after installing new drivers. I also added a bluray drive, but the problem started before the addition.

I've heard that Creative Sound Drivers can cause a freezing problem, so I uninstalled all of the Creative drivers/utilities and installed the latest Realtek drivers. I'm running bios version 12 (I believe 13 is the latest now?), and I'm not sure about vbios.

Can someone help me fix the lock ups without having to reinstall windows? Thanks so much!

First thing i'd suggest doing is updating the firmware for your M4 SSD, they recently released revision 0009. In alot cases the freezing you're describing is because of the SSD.

Thanks for the update, Hutsady. I'll try revising the firmware on the SSD tonight and report back.

I'd just like to let people know that the firmware update on the Crucial M4 SSD fixed the freezing/lock up issue! Yay! :)
