So I just bought a used g73jh with 8Gig Ram, 740q, and 5870m. I was looking into upgrading to a matte 1080p screen. I am curious to what people who already made this upgrade are getting performance wise. I play a lot of current games which I know I would get better performance with the 900p screen. I am however willing to drop settings down to medium. I want 1080p for the multitasking improvements such as running two windows side by side(win+left, and win+right)

True you may need to limit the settings the jump from 900p to 1080p is pretty hefty in terms of performance hit but the Matte B173HW01v5 1080p screen is gorgeous and is a must have IMO.

Where did you find that lcd at? I was looking at ASUS G73JH-BST7 replacement Laptop LCD Screen from $63.99 Brand-new screens (never used).
    Their matte 1080p runs 70 + 15 shipping.

As Yiddo said, the B173HW01v5 is amazing. I replaced my 900p screen with it and it was easily worth the $100 I spent on it. make sure you buy an A+ grade though.

Also make sure it is that LCD. I've seen a lot of Ebay listings for example that say it's a replacement for that LCD, meaning it isn't that LCD. Just be cautious, make sure it really is that LCD. These sellers can be fishy.

Same for Amazon. If it says replacement for blah blah LCD, don't buy. Make sure it is. that LCD.

^this. i have also seen that. I would also confirm the EXACT model number with the seller. I have ordered replacement screens for other laptops and they have sent me a different model saying it is compatible (sometimes even cfl models...).

Okay. OP, I've done this exact screen swap for my G73JH. I purchased from the seller in this auction and got a B173HW01 V5:

NEW B173HW01 V5 17.3'' LCD LAPTOP SCREEN EXACT | eBay

Other people in the thread referenced below can confirm that you will get an actual V5 in this auction and not a compatible part. Also, it gives you a good idea of what to expect as far as display quality:

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/sager-clevo/577259-my-god-its-beautiful-b173hw01-v5-upgrade.html

Installation is a little tricky; the big part is remembering the orientation of the brackets that are screwed onto the old display. However I must stress that even with the tricky installation this upgrade is very much worth it.

I can't stand glossy displays. Yes I know they make the colors 'pop', but if you have any ambient light around it's almost impossible to actually see the display past the reflections you're dealing with. Since you're wanting a matte display I'm sure you already know this. The V5 is viewable outdoors at max brightness, to give you an idea of how useable it is.

Funnily enough I don't use my G73 for a large amount of gaming, or at least I'm not a hardcore gamer with the latest and greatest titles and has to have the absolute best in framerates. Yes, the JH is still quite powerful for my needs. The only game I had to do quite a bit of tweaking to in order to run right after going to 1080p is Metro 2033, which is already quite demanding. Anything else I regularly play like GTA4, Fallout 3, Skyrim, Source games(obviously), MW3, etc run just fine.

The 1080p display greatly helped multitasking quite a bit and I was quite pleased with the resolution bump. Not quite the old 1920x1200 I was used to but not too far off.

Either way I'm sure you will be very pleased with this display. It was a night and day difference on my G73. Best upgrade I've done to it, even edging out the Intel X25M SSD I put in it.

Shipping was pretty quick. At the auction you're looking at about $150 with shipping, but for me it arrived in a week. There's someone in the thread I referenced who received theirs in 3-4 days from the same seller. From my past experience they are highly recommended.
