Hello all, just yesterday my G73JH stopped charging under AC power. The light on the AC adapter is on, and when i push in the plug into the computer port hard it charges but as soon as I release it the computer stops charging and switches to battery mode. Is this an issue with the adapter or the port in the computer? I really wish it is the former, as all that would take is buying a new adapter. I bought it from Best Buy, and I think it might be covered under warranty but not sure.

To be honest, it could be either. Its hard to tell, take it to best buy and see what they say.

If you'd rather do things yourself, try to find someone with an Asus laptop. Most of the AC adapters are compatible with each other. Or go to radioshack and get a iGo Laptop Anywhere Charger (they usually come with plugs that are compatible with Asus laptops) to test it out, if it works then you know its the your ac adapter, if not then its your port and just return the iGo. (or keep it, they are quite handy I think)

    Good luck

You can examine the port and see if the pin is off-center.

Do you notice the tip of your charging jack to warm up after forcing it in and letting it go after a few minutes of being plugged in? Sounds like the dc jack housing

Probe your dc jack port without the battery plugged in for loose-ness. Paperclip, point on a x-acto knife, or a leg from a led are good choices to feel for play and wigglyness.

Return to the store if its within warranty period or RMA if you aren't comfortable with a teardown and inspection

probably the ac adapter, the one that came with mine stopped working 6 months later (i bought mine from best buy)..
i simply ordered a new charger from ebay and everything worked great...

im sure the problem is with the end of the ac adapter

    gl on sorting things out

Thanks for the help guys, just an update bought the IGo laptop charger to test the problem and turns out that in fact it was an ac adapter issue. I am probably going to return the IGo charger which cost me $130 and end up ordering something cheaper if anybody has any suggestions?

Depends if you want a generic one or an actual Asus one.

Get the Targus 180W AC adapter, I think its only around 80-100 USD. I would just ask Best Buy and see what they'll do about it. You should be under warranty, so they'll just send your Adapter in and you'll get a new one from ASUS.
