    Mates,

I've owned my awesome G73JH for some four years now and have meticulously kept it clean and up-to-date.

My hard drive was recently replaced and I found my display behaving strangely today. This hapens regardless of ATI driver version and also when I run on default VGA adapter. I've spent quite a bit of effort searching these forums and searching the net but have found no clues, no answers.

    • The ASUS bootup screen (normally black) is now navy blue.
    • The Windows 7 bootup screen (the one with the four colored spheres prancing around; normally black) is now navy blue.
    • The display appears "screen door" like; i.e., I can see countless vertical lines. The lines give a white background a grey appearance, for example. Almost looks like a refresh rate problem but my attempts at fixing it have failed.

What on earth is going on? I'm told it's likely the video card's swan song...

Update A: ...and the display has a blue tint to it.

Update B: ...when I flash the BIOS (be it 209, 211 or 213), the initial boot-up has a black ASUS screen followed by a black (i.e., normal) Windows 7 loading screen. Subsequent reboots, however, return boot-up to navy blue screens.

Update C: ...just got home and connected it to my HDTV- works great. So it's the LCD or the cable then, I assume.

Well what about an external display?

Yes, sir. Got home and connected it to my HDTV and the display was flawless. So this narrows it down to the LCD and/or cable, no? I've managed additional Google time tonight and, using the correct/better query terms, did find some related problems (most of them with ASUS products, interestingly enough). I'll take a look at the cable, see if something came lose... perhaps research the cost of replacing the LCD (there are a few links on these same forums for that).

    Thanks for the response, mate.

Display replacements wont be that bad, worth checking the cable though first.
