Hello all, I bought my Asus G73JH in August 2010 and have since become accustomed to random crashes while i am gaming. These games include Aion, Battlefield 3, and now Skyrim. I also get very low fps while gaming, which I haven't been able to understand.

In the past I have been able to buy a duster can and spray out the fans, (I haven't removed any panels or opened my computer yet), through the vents in the back and under the computer. This fixed my problem every time it seemed and I was able to game. I had a temperature gauge and saw that my temps do decrease after I do this.

During the last 2 days I am constantly getting crashes with jarbled audio and spraying the fans does NOTHING to fix these issues anymore.

Things I have done to fix the problem:
    - Contacted Asus Support earlier this year and I updated BIOS to increase fan speed as was recommended by the rep.
    - Use a spray can to clean the fans.
    - Updated GPU Driver which supports Skyrim and Battlefield 3.

    System Specs:
    Asus G73JH-A1
    ATI Radeon HD 5870
    Intel Core i7-720 Quadcore @ 1.60 GHz
    8GB RAM

Very frustrated with these crashes (with no fix it seems) and low fps rate in games. Help is MUCH APPRECIATED! Thank you!

Turin have you checked which VBIOS is installed on your system?
    012.020.000.032.038352 is the version recommended by the experts here;
You can use hwinfo64 to verify this.
Also which audio drivers are you using?

    BIOS = G73Jh.211, date 07/27/2010
ATI VBIOS = 012.017.000.004.035992 *** I don't know how to update the vbios, I have noticed mine isn't the one you have listed.

    CCC Version 2011.1012.1625.27603

    Audio Drivers
    - ATI HDMI Audio, version 6.0.1.5857, 5/20/2009
    - Realtek High Defintion Audio, version 6.0.1.5978, 11/10/2009

    *Some more info:
These aren't BSOD that i'm getting. They are just freeze-ups, (some of the last frame and some of vertical gray and black lines), with constant blaring audio.

I forgot to mention before that I also am getting these freeze-ups at any time while I'm using the computer; windows log-in screen, desktop, etc.

You might want to download first the latest Realtek High Definition Audio Drivers at their website. Download the following:

    1. 64bits Vista, Windows7 Driver only (Executable file)
    2. ATI HDMI Audio Device

Upon installation, uninstall first your Realtek High Definition Audio Driver and Realtek HDMI Audio Driver for ATI then install the 2 installers that you have just downloaded.

When it comes to flashing your VBios, prepare a USB Flash Drive and the files that you would be needing. Read on the following posts so that you could educate yourself before doing this process:

    1. How to Fix Your GSOD Blues
    2. Step 1 of What to do with your new G73JH
    3. G73Jh GSOD Vbios Update

The next step you have to do is to update your ATI Drivers. I can't find the thread on proper installation of the ATI Drivers so someone who knows the entire process might be able to post it here for you.

Ok I read #1 and #2 and went to CCC and it says I have 012.017.000.004, which isn't listed. That and my CCC has been updated since I got my computer. I'm pretty sure I installed new ATI Drivers at least at the end of October.

I read that I need to put 93vbiosa on a USB. Will this give me the vbios of 012.020.000.032.038352 or 012.020.000.032 ? Or are they the same thing?

Not sure what I'm doing here.

**Update - I followed the vbios flash walkthrough and successfully updated it to 012.020.000.032.038352.

Is there anything else I should be updating to fix these issues, such as lower than normal framerates in games that I should be doing just fine in (such as Aion, Battlefield 3) ?

Try reinstalling your ATI Drivers to 11.12 for example.

I've manage to dug Chastity's instructions on reinstalling ATI Drivers on this post for the effective way of reinstalling your ATI Drivers.

You may DL the Driver Sweeper program here and make sure you have the CCleaner program and the ATI Driver installer.
