ASUS G73JH-A2 17.3" Notebook (Discontinued, Please Consider ASUS G73Jh-A1). ASUS G73JH-A2

Ask Ken Lee if ASUS really is thinking to discontinue this model. You can contanct him here: http://forum.notebookreview.com/member.php?u=34663 -
One can only hope this is true. A recall should be next!!!!!
-
If they discontinue it does that mean that no new vBIOS is coming out or any kind of fix?
Is this even official? If so, I agree to a recall and hope they replace it with the JW.. we need some compensation for going through the trouble -
I confirm to you that the ASUS G73JH-A2 HAS been discontinued AND will be replaced by the ASUS G73JW 3D and non 3d versions with Nvidea GTX460M.
Retailers and ASUS are waiting for Nvidea to officially lunch their new mobile fermi so that they can start the G73 and G53 pre-orders and shipments will start mid-late September. -
I need a new lappy for uni... i hope the jw is out like fasst.
-
My question about GTX460M would be to know how hot would it run and how much power will it consume?
The desktop Fermi cards run very hot and consume lot of power.
Here I found some photo of a Clevo with Fermi GTX480M and the cooling solution look frightening.

Im betting it comes with a 460.
-
Oof. I've had mine for about a month and enjoyed the heck out of it. Don't like hearing this and possible loss of support. =/
-
Maybe by 'discontinued' they mean that their particular site/store isn't receiving any more G73's, who knows why. It seems silly to me that they'd (asus itself) remove the JH from sales before the JW is even up for pre-orders. Also they just seem to be out of the cheaper A2's, maybe stores want to dump the more expensive (less popular?) A1's before the JW is out?
-
Only the A2 has been discontinued...they have replaced it with a different G73JH model...can't remember which one exactly.
-
Probably replaced by the A3.
-
I also heard that the A1 is getting discontinued by the end of next week...
-
this is not good.. i really hope it doesn't happen otherwise i'm screwed.
-
It could very well be that ASUS is replacing A2 by A3.
It was announced back when the Seagate Momentus XT was released.
I thought that A3 was going to be sold only in limited amounts through some retailers. -
that would ok for me.. but not the A1.. i'll just fall down dead.. i really can't take all this anymore...
-
I know how you feel. I was planning on getting the G73JH early september.
-
This was the hottest, preorder laptop at the beginning of the year. And now.... How the mighty have fallen....
-
Hey sean473, check out the new MSI GX740-235US if you are into gaming without issues or headaches. Rob at RK computers has a pix of this new baby. I can say after 6 Asus g73's from bestbuy this has been a great purchase for me and I dont have to steal the MSI vbios to get my Asus computer to work. Good luck hope the best for you.
-
or the GX660....
-
i'm not interested in MSI.. the GX740 doesn't even have a full HD screen etc etc.. i'll take my chances with the G73 as long as it doesn't GSOD's on stock drivers and anyways Asus is comming up with a fix soon.
-
Whata helll?!
I had bought A2 version with W7 ult. few months earlier for big money and now they discontinued him? I don't have problem with GSOD but that's really annoying what they doing to us. It seems to me like we been at the end of the rope and asus cut us off without explanation. What is the reason, and what about us that already bought this notebook? I suppose that the support will continue and if I RMA it because of something they will send me G73jw with slower VGA GTX460. Is that what they want to do?
Asus this isn't the right way to deal with somebody who had bought the best of you got.
I don't like it.
PS.: Sorry for bad english. -
will they actually send a g73jw instead of a g73jh?
-
So, they are discontinuing one model of the G73JH, not the entire line. The laptop has been out a full 6 months, I'd be upset with Asus if they didn't keep up with the times and release new products. Now support is another issue, this doesn't mean they will stop supporting the G73.
-
ok this is excellent news.
-
I just heard from my friend in a distribution company that Asus has discontinued the A1 as well. maybe hes lying because stores are still selling them...........
-
I just phoned Asus, they said call back tomorrow for an official announcement.
this is seriously retarded. -
I totally agree with u on this...
-
the 460M seems more powerful than the blackcomb XT ES (68xx series)
-
I'm happy to hear this news. I'm an extremely happy with my G73JH-A1 but am more excited about the rumors I've been hearing about the JW. If Asus didn't continue to release new models with new technology they they would just get left behind by others that would. 6 months ago (and even today) the JH may have been the best thing around...but that definitely won't be the case in 6 months.
Of course it's a bit tougher to stomach for those who have just bought their JH (or even worse have one on its way). I've had mine for a few months now so the sting of being knocked down a peg or two on the standings won't hit me quite as hard.
I'm just excited to see what Asus has to replace the line. -
however these are the speculated specs
i7 720QM 1,6Ghz
6Gb DDR3
2 x 500Gb HDD 7200rpm
Nvidia GTX 460M
as you can see, this seems like a step backwards. (atleast to me).
okay sure they have the "3D" gimmick and a SINGLE usb 3.0 port, but none of these features are mainstream and it doesnt look like they will be for a while. -
im ready to buy right now. do any of you have a guestimate on the new model? or are any of you willing to selll your old model for a reasonable price?
i need something by the end of the month
-
-
dont forget the HIDI the 1080p wireless
-
I agree with AriStar...don't see any real improvement or a "leap" forward with the JW. I think most here would agree that the ATI 5870 is better than the Nvidia 460. Have no use for 3D. And 1 USB 3.0? I guess I am missing something here, none of the specs for the JW would make me wish I had one instead of the JH. I guess it also helps that I have been problem free using the 2.09Bios with the stock ATI drivers.
-
On the other hand, I've been waiting for this revision for a while now. If I were to get it about 80% of the time it would be for work on various Adobe programs. The rest of the time will be gaming but I'm not a hardcore pc gamer so if it's slightly worse off in games vs the ati card I don't mind. I would be very interested in some photoshop/premiere/ae tests on the jh vs the jw when it's released to see how they compare at various intensive tasks. Been looking at workstation laptops for a few months now and the g73 isn't a true one but I think it represents one of the best deals for its specs. The g73jw is on my short list (assuming no fatal flaws or an unreasonable price increase).
-
The new Asus G73 coming out will be the G73JH-B1, which improves several things, including supposedly fixing some issues, I believe an i7 740 processor, and the same price proint. It is reputed to be the intermediate "new laptop" between the current A-series G73's and the JW's coming in a month or two.
Edit: Here ya go! http://www.portableone.com/product.asp?pf_id=G73JH-B1 -
-
I am going to guess no. Because the new laptop (B1) is coming next week and xoticpc will have it in early September. I have the feeling that the new or rather upgraded lines (Asus, Toshiba, etc.) will all come out in October. Just a guess, though.
-
-
I don't know about Asus, but the Toshiba x505 was announced in October last year, so it's a good bet.
I'm pretty sure Asus is anxious to put the G73JH to bed too. Switching to Nvidia and a supposedly inferior GPU was a very telling move. -
There's no "supposedly" about it. The 285m is inferior to the 5870. The two advantage it will have over the 5870 will be NVidia's superior driver support for it's GPU's and the possiblity of 3D.
-
Umm...I thought Asus was going with the 460m?
And 3D might actually be pretty cool on a laptop. It's way too expensive and useless on a TV right now, but on a gaming laptop, I could definitely see the draw. -
I think there is speculation at the moment as to whether or not they are going with a 460m or a 285m, but I am not sure which one Asus will go with. We were talking about this in another thread in this forum as well. I personally think that the 460m will be inferior to the 285m, and we were debating that.
As for 3D, keep in mind that assuming you have a 3D laptop, you still have to pay upwards of $200.00 for the glasses and emmiter.
Here: Amazon.com: nVidia GeForce Wireless 3D Stereo Glasses Kit with Emitter: Electronics -
Asus already has the other 3d model notebooks, well they did. I would like to see a g73 series with 3d.
-
Yeah, I hear you. I would love to see 3D in the G73's, to be honest. The Qosmio has it, but it is steep because you have to buy the NVidia glasses for almost two hundred dollars.
Jeffrey, that is a nice Bonsai in your avatar. My Dad is one of the leading experts in the world on Bonsai trees. He has been selling trees and supplies since the sixties. -
In an email from Xotic PC I was told it is going to have a 4xx nvidia card. and i beleive glasses/emitter come with the laptop.
-
That sounds cool and may even somewhat offset the lower end 460m card.
-
Apparently they are going to have different versions as well. So the G73JW-XX will only ship with WI-DI. The G73JW-3DE is apparently coming in October.
-
Why would Asus make the next version of the G73 with a supposedly inferior GPU? For the the 3D only?
