Because the only single NVidia GPU that is a real competitor to the Radeon 5870 is the 480m and that card is way too expensive for the price-point of the G73's. Also, Nvidia has better driver support. I think that a lot of people are also speculating that Asus's problems with the G73's are inextricably tied to the 5870's.

Don't get me wrong, I agree with you and think that it is a horrible trade-off to lose the 5870 off of the line and likely keep the product at or above the same price range. I think that Asus is going to try to offset the heavy GPU hit with other features. The reality is that unless NVidia changes how they design their GPU chipsets, the 460m will likely be nothing but a slightly improved version of the 360m, just as the 360m was nothing but a glorified 260m.

While the 360m is a good, solid, even high-end gaming GPU, it's no 5870, and certainly no 480.

For those who want to buy MSI:
Do not buy it. MSI is crap. High temperatures, junk chassis, bad service. 90% of their notebook comes back to RMA. When I RMAs my old notebook they put seal on RAM panel so I cant even upgrade RAM.

Can you site a source that shows MSI's RMA rate is 90%? Somehow I doubt that 9 out of ten of their notebooks are returned. Even if you had a valid argument about MSI you really have blown any chance of expressing it by lying.

I thought that except for the thermal paste, almost all the G73's problems were driver related?? What would a new physical model accomplish? Don't get me wrong, on paper it's an extremely powerful notebook for a killer price, and I'd love to see it succeed (well, it's kind of ugly, but anyway) but a new model doesn't seem to address the real problem.

Maybe it has more consistent proper TIM applications and will have their updated vbios/driver package pre-installed? By the time it is ready to ship/buy I'm guessing 90% of us here will already be through testing their new bios/driver packages on our current g73's.

I am pretty sure that it is not available for sale rigtht at this moment, but that you can pre-order it. I could be wrong, because I only saw a couple of sites that had the unit listed as a pre-order item and listed as out officially next week some time.

I have many experiences with MSI service because I was sold their hardware and notebooks.

    For exaple:
GX701x laptop. Few days from sale I was dispatch him to RMA. Expose from RMA: motherboard and gpu burned. After three months again RMA and cause: burned VGA. Third time same again plus problem with speakers, hinge creak and big mark at display from keyboard because of design bug.

775 motherboard with CMOS problem a after month they send me same board with same problem. At second RMA they send me same board but CMOS was changed by technician from MSI (an "expert") with classic soldering gun. PCB around CMOS was burned and painted by red color (out range). After this I was gave my customer money back.

Maybe non gaming series notebook from MSI are good but GS are burning to death. These and many other experiences with MSI are all mine not friend's of my friend.

Customer can not see what is between his dealer and RMA service. Its on the dealer to advise better solution.

Yes - its been confirmed. The next in the G73JH lineup is the G73JH-B1 due to be available in the next week or two. The CPU is boosted up to the i7 740QM (1.73GHz-2.93GHz) featuring Intel's Turbo Boost Technology. The price point did increase though... they will retail for $1799.00. We've been told to expect our first stock by the end of August.

The G73JH-A1 and A2 have both been discontinued... There are only a couple left for anyone wanting to save a $100 or so on the A1 over the B1.

Hmm, well I bought my -A1 in mid may, sent it for repairs in mid. july. That gives me 2 months of laptop usage, and 1 month of RMA waiting. Is there any chance I can convince asus to upgrade me? Because honestly, I would have just waited for the revision if I knew I couldn't play SC2 on it ...

That's a damned good question, and one of the answer to it is "yes" will (at least in my opinion) cost Asus a lot of potential customers for the G73's new line. I already think that $100.00 is too much to pay for the benefit of getting the 740 over the 720.

Well... if you purchased from us we could help coordinate with ASUS for you. We're just 15 minutes or so away from their Ca head quarters and we know the service manager over there... we did have one customer send in an A2 for RMA service and he received a new A1 in return. Anything's possible... If you did buy it from us, please contact me directly at [email protected].

    Good luck!

No, and very very little chance to get B1 version. Why everybody whats jw? If the rumors are true and in jw will be GTX460 then jw will be slower and it will have higher power requirements than jh. You will never get 3D jw version after RMA because cost of 3D jw will about 500€ higher than jh.

Unless..perhaps..if you bought the BB model like I did and bought the optional 1 yr accidental death warranty...maybe then if you take it in they will have to honor the replacement with the new model...

Great question! Honest answer is its too soon to tell since this problem wasn't always present right out of the box in many cases. We offer a $45.00 inspection and testing service where we burn in the notebook, run RAM, GPU, CPU stress testing, check for bright dots, etc.... We have two B1s on order for this testing which began yesterday and both came out 100% ok and will be shipping out this afternoon.

I would expect though that ASUS has addressed this problem

    Hope this helps.

from what ken has told me , the B1 has the newest revision 5870M which should be better than the old ones.. i'd say chances of GSOD are lower but need to be confirmed! Anyways mine's shipping tomorrow!
