i had my clocks to 780/1080 and i was playing Test drive unlimited 2 then suddenlly GSOD so i had to turn off the laptop from the power button and turn it on again
it loaded desktop icons and some of the programs and a lockup occured
so i had to turn it off again from the power button
so i've tried second time to boot the machine and same thing occured... after booting lockup occured again and i turned off the laptop and left it for 2 hours. After those 2 hours i've turned the laptop again and now everything is fine...hmm

so how would you explain those lockups and the GSOD ?

p.s i don't have problems with creative.my laptop was working perfectly before the GSOD
using 213 BIOS , updated GSOD free VBIOS

    my GPU temperatures are fine
but do you think overheating can make the GSOD and the lockups?
if yes i believe that was my problem becouse i have overlocked it a little and i had my laptop on top of a blanket

My guess would be the "on top of a blanket" lol

Or perhaps your VRam doesnt like that exact clock/timing? My vRam speed can be fidgety sometimes. For example I can do 100 on the vRam but not 400, as I get flickering. Or 870/1150 but not 870/1100 or 850/1100, without the extra 50mhz on the vram I have to bring the core down to 820 for some reason.

For your situation, just speculation on my part though.

Lol. My computer ALWAYS locks up when it hardcrashes. WIthout fail, and replicable everytime.

What I do is, I boot up after the crash, and shutdown immediately before the desktop loads. Then restart. It then works flawlessly until my next hardcrash.

If you don't manage to shut it down before the lockup, you gotta do it again. lol

Methinks it has something to do with some creative/realtek audio service not being shutdown properly from the crash.

I used to BSOD from the Atheros drivers, athryx.sys giving me the finger everytime. Hence the hardcrashes. Solved it by installing the one on Chastity's page bless er'.

well not actually on a blanket but on this thing LOL http://www.ilictekstil.co.rs/img/jorgan07-3.jpg
i wanted to play a game while i was laying
hmm actually i don't think my graphic card doesn't like that clock but i am not sure
780/1080 was stable enought for me
if i go to 800/1100 the game freezes for a moment (too much overclock)
but none of the clocks gave me an GSOD

actually that vbios garry released is not 100% GSOD free ...

well that is some good info
thanks man i will try it on the next crash LOL
p.s you didn't answered on my message in your inbox

If it still happens again even if not placed on top of a blanket, try to re-install your latest realtek drivers even if you already have the latest.

It happened to me too one time even if I'm on Realtek 256. I need to do a hard reboot then login to windows then lockup again for 4 consecutive times. I re-installed Realtek on safe mode just to know if it might fix it again and when I login to windows, it's fixed again.

i overclocked my 5870 to 1015/1190 to bench, so i dont think the clocks are too high...

this has "overheated" written all over it....

and yes your laptop will lockup/freeze/shutdown when overheating... i suspect its the blanket thing you had it on...NEVER game on anything other than a desk... or a laptop cooler if you want to put it on your lap in bed (thats what i do)

Yea, I came up with the fact that the vbios tends to "resist" the gsod. When I installed it for the first time, I got gsod for like 3 seconds, then it went back to normal. But it never happened again.

^^^^^ Yea from my experience with the Clevo/MSI/Asus versions of the 5870s.... they don't OC as high as Dell's Revision... Dont know why... they're also a different color from dell/alienware and the pcb is red not green.. here's what i got on my old M15x with a Dell 5870 :) .. .currently still the record holder actually :) 10509 on the gpu score with a single 5870 :D

i know it is not high (i can do the benchmark with 840/1120 but that clock doesn't wok for games at least for me) but i keep 780/1080 maybe higher for gaming on some games
so you are saying that the heat made those lockups
but what about the GSOD ?
    heat also ? i don't think so

Play the game you were playing when it happened... With the same OC...

And download GPU-Z and click on the sensors tab, then check off the "LOG" box at the bottom... And let it run in the background ... Play for like 10mins and see what your temps are like...and if it happens again you can check the log file to see what your temps were like when it crashed ...

I'm not saying that's the reason... I'm saying it's a possibility... We need to eliminate factors to pinpoint what it is... Crashing can also be a driver issue alot of the time... It depends on a lot of things...
