Everything worked fine yesterday as I used this laptop for BF3 while using Vent for voice.

Tonight it took a dive. It is driving me nuts!

When I sign onto Vent I hear Dump, bump dee dump as usual at the normal volume level. (hard to describe tones lol)

Upon signing into a chat room when it does Da-ding, the Da-ding is at a stupidly low volume, have to press my earbuds to my ear to hear it at all.

The peeps I'm talking with hear me fine, but they are equally low as the "Da-ding" of changing rooms.

If I turn up the receive volume to only helps mildly masking to problem and distorting all incoming voice.

HELP! I'm quite tech savy and I can't figure this out for the life of me!

BTW a minute ago I tried signing on again and the "Da-ding" was at a normal volume and I told my buddy great whatever, it works now. He responded again and the volume slammed back down the the gutter mid sentence. The "Da-ding" when changing rooms dropped down again as well!

It appears to be related to plugging in my earbuds into the 3.5mm jack

When I'm using the laptop's speaker the receive volume is normal.

A couple seconds after I plug my earbuds into the jack it reduces to perhaps 20% of normal volume.

I tried an update of the realtek audio drivers from 2.45 to 2.69 to no avail.

I really hate PC's sometimes because of issues arising seemingly out of nowhere.

Ok. Problem solved... Thread can be locked

Headset wire must be broken inside and the intermittent connections were screwing with it.

Always check the peripheral first in another device if possible. :)

Props to the op for accurately determining the reduction in sound level, though. :)
