I am having an issue that I have not seen addressed in this forum, or anywhere else for that matter. It only happens with Starcraft 2. Basically every 5 or 10 seconds I get little freezes. It like stops and replays the sound of that moment when it froze over and over again.(I am having trouble describing this as you can tell) And the video does the same as the sound freezes up and repeats the same thing over and over again. It eventually works itself out but then in another 5 or 10 seconds it happens again. I have already tried uninstalling and reinstalling the game. I am at bios 211 and the new vbios from the first post in this forum. Also I am using the 10.7a catalyst driver. It would be greatly appreciated if someone could help me out on this. I have found this site to be the best place to discuss issues regarding the g73 so that is why I posted here.

Here is a video of what is happening: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OsYXrSpSAEA

    1) check your DPC Latency during the game
    2) disable any monitoring apps / antivirus while playing
    3) Try Cats 10.8

What is the temp of your GPU when your playing SC2? I know I had problems like that when I first get into custom games where it hangs for a sec and then start going like normal afterwards. If the temp is high you might want to consider repasting the system. Also I would recommend using 10.8 with the new vbios.

What program would you suggest for checking DPC Latency? Sorry I am kind of a new with PC gaming.

I always use twinturbo when I am in a game. But another question would you recommend a complete fresh install of cats 10.8 by this I mean uninstall 10.7a run drive sweeper then install 10.8 or can I just install over top of 10.7a?

I would have thought typing "DPC latency checker" in google would reveal enough :D

Why are people enabling twin slow-bo again? What'd I miss?

Which I did and found one. It seems when it freezes up that the dpc latency is unaffected it has several spikes every once in a while but none while the game is freezing up.

Also The gpu temp stays around 86 degrees C While playing.

I find Twin Turbo odd...it lowers my benchmarks..but makes some the games I play (the ones not running near or at 60fps) run a decent chunk smoother. Its weird.

I just installed the cats 10.8 drivers and no luck still getting the same small freezes. Still hoping that someone has a solution for this.

Probably the first thing you checked, but just to make sure ...

In the settings for your selected power plan, make sure the following settings are used:

    PCI Express
    Link state power management: Off

    Processor power management
    Minimum processor state: 100%
    Maximum processor state: 100%

    ATI graphics power settings
    ATI PowerPlay settings: Maximize Performance

Yes that was one of the first things I thought could be causing it so I went through to make sure all my settings were maxed out. I am thinking of just doing a fresh install of Windows 7 and seeing if that fixes anything.

After trying to play through the freezing last night I started to notice that the freezing mainly affects the sound. It is usually when someone talks or some new sound starts playing that wasn't before. So I am going to try and download the two latest audio drivers from asus and see if that helps. I will post back with results.

Update: No luck, the new audio drivers solved nothing. I am going to do a fresh install of Windows 7 over this weekend. After this I will update again and post results. If you have any other suggestions that you think might work please let me know.

Have you updated your windows 7?

Kindly please check you win update history if there was any recent critical patch happened. I had this issue and I mailed ASUS about this problem. They told me to check my Win Update if any patches were made. I saw too much critical update and I restored my win7 earlier before the patch and the problem was solved. (sadly I am not updating my win 7 because the freezing problem will return). Sounds odd but you can try it and play SCII again.

Yes it is only in SCII, and thanks for the Win 7 restore suggestion I will give that a try... I am just going to do a fresh Win 7 install since I am pretty sure that it was happening only a couple of weeks after I got the computer. I have tried doing a fresh install once before to resolve it but I don't believe I paid enough attention to stop any updates that it was trying to install. So I will try once more and make sure it doesn't update.

It's not a G73 issue. It's something with your computer. SC2 runs fantastic on the G73.

You will not find your answer on a notebook forum for this problem since it's not a problem with the notebook.

If you haven't already, you should hit the SC2 forums. If you have this issue, likely there are other SC2 players also.

Too bad you can't change the title of this thread since it's clearly a SC2 issue, not a G73 issue.

I had this problem with SC2 too.

Went away after a fresh install. Never did troubleshoot it (I usually don't, if a fresh install fixes it, good enough for me!).

Of course, this was on my C02 rev. card. Got GSODs after my RMA (among other problems), and havn't had the computer back since.

THOUGH, if I had to guess, is your firewall interfering? I'm pretty sure blizzard has 2 programs that need access, otherwise you'll be able to play but not view stats and such.

That is an erroneous statement. While it might run fine on G73s in general, it could very well be an issue with the OPs laptop. It isn't clear what the issue is...

Strange. I don't even get that problem on my dino desktop. And what's with the low graphics settings? It looks like what my dino desktop can produce.. SAD!

Hopefully its just an ATI driver issue?

Do a fresh install of Win7, and be careful updating things so you can monitor which update or program might affect your SCII. Fresh OS solved this issue for me, but after updating my Win7 it came back. Then I used system restore prior to critical updates and its gone.

Ok so I once again did a fresh windows 7 install. I made sure that windows 7 didn't update at all. All I did was install the stock drivers that came with the computer. Also I updated to cats 10.8. I then installed SCII and when it was done I launched it. Unfortunately it only took about 5 min. for the freezing to happen again. I am starting to think that this could be a hardware issue since everyone else with this problem seems to have easily resolved it with a fresh install of either SCII or Win 7. I will probably just ignore it since it is only in SCII that I have this issue, and I would rather put a bullet through the computer than send it off to ASUS again with their RMA bull. Still I am optimistic that 10.10 will bring better things for me and could possibly fix this. But I am still willing to hear any suggestions any of you may have and give them a try. Anything that is other than sending it back to ASUS.

Did you update your vbios? Installing updated driver with stock vbios is not compatible.

Use the 10.7a cats. 10.8 is a step backwards.

Sorry Chosen, I don't know much than those information. But if we read other forum site (blizzard) we might get a chance to fix the source of the problem. You even stated that it only happens on SCII.

    ?

I have new drivers and stock vbios (never had any video issues so no reason to update the vbios).

edit: Never had an issue with SC2, either.

No reason to update the vbios except ... for all the knowledgeable asus-connected people recommending that the vbios update should be applied in all cases, whether or not you have issues? Check the stickies.
