My laptop had the red fuz in dark parts of the screen but not when hooked to an external monitor. I tried new drivers, new BIOS and now a new LCD cable but am still having the same problem. Actually after replacing the cable the problem is much worse.

    I can not RMA it.

    Ideas?

As its not on external monitor the problem is the panel. You could just buy a replacement one and install it, plenty of disassembly guides and prices have dropped a lot so they are pretty cheap now.

I have never heard of a fixable fault with a panel, unless it's a loose or corroded cable.

I bought a new cable but it seems to have made the problem worse. I tried taking the cable out and plugging it back in on both sides without any improvement. Is there some trick to installing the cable? It just seems to snap into place.

I think it's the panel that has the problem and the problem is getting worse. Cables generally just snap on into place if I'm not mistaken. Hope that you get to resolve your problem soon.

Try the old cable again, if it stays just as bad it's either a connector on your panel/motherboard or the panel going bad.
