My G73JH-BST07 has been performing pretty smoothly for about a year, but when I loaded up Bad Company 2 earlier today, it locked up mid-loading screen (the mouse wouldn't respond, ctrl+alt+del didn't work, I had to hard reset by holding the power button).
Since that, it has occasionally locked up when I was simply on firefox to browse, or once when I tried loading up Team Fortress 2 (one out of two test tries).
It doesn't seem to be a graphics temperature issue, since I know the laptop would shut down at a certain safety temperature (happened once due to a dead island frame rate glitch). When it locks up, nothing changes on the screen- it stays literally exactly the same, except nothing responds. If a sound has been playing, it will get stuck until I hard reset.
Has anybody else had this issue so far? It's been probably about a half-hour since the last lock-up (several happened within a very short time of eachother, but for now it seems safe).

I just recently had this hppening to me to

Hi there,
I know you said it couldn't be a graphics temperature problem but that is not always the case first thing to do is the run HWINFO and check firstly that both fans are running use the sensors and then load the system and check again to see if it is hitting the 100's on the CPU or the GPU.
However it sounds as though it is more stability related either memory or disc drive or it could just be the operating system. To begin ruling things out try the following:
- Run HDTune and check the health of the primary partition/hdd to see if there are any bad sectors or reallocated sectors.
- Restart the computer tapping F8 and select Memory diagnostic test
- Have you made any recent hardware/software changes that could affect how the system runs any plug and play devices or most importantly have you put more RAM in and if so what speed is it?
- A common locking up problem with the JH is the Realtek/Creative drivers and this causes a random lockup could you confirm what drivers you are using and if when you access the Creative Control Panel it crashes?
- Does the AC adaptor light stay green when it locks up, or stay on when it locks up?
- What display drivers are you currently using, and more importantly what BIOS and VBIOS?
- And finally do you use hibernation as this is known to causes lockups? -
1. I have not tried this, but will and will post the results. On the other hand, I usually do have GPU-Z running constantly in the background. On the most stressful games, it goes to about 81 degrees tops. It idles at around 58-59.
2. I'll let you know when I've tried this too.
3. I have not yet altered the RAM/etc. on this laptop (although I was hoping to do so). In case I'm interested in doing this, are there any known issues? I think I have heard that this laptop could have its RAM doubled?
4. I see. Any drivers on my laptop should still be factory model for G73JH-BST7. I can access the creative/realtek menus alright. I'm not sure if this is right, but I guess it's 6.0.1.6122?
5. I haven't been checking this, so I'll keep an eye out for when it next happens.
6. I think the BIOS should be 211 (7/27/2010)? Under the ATI Mobility 5870 tab, I think the driver is listed as 8.683.0.0.
7.If hibernation as in closing the lid of the laptop instead of completely shutting down... I actually do this almost every day when I stop using it instead of using a shut-down. If this is the problem, then I guess I will have to start shutting it down properly instead of just using hibernation (unless it's too late and something's been irreparably damaged somehow).
Thanks, I'll update you when I get the chance. -
Pop up GPU-Z and tell use your video BIOS version

According to GPU-Z, I think my BIOS is 012.017.000.004.035992?
Where would I be able to find the realtek audio drivers for the G73JH-BST7? Would you know a good place?
Strangely enough, I haven't had any lock-ups since that time yesterday. I vaguely remember something like this occuring almost a year ago, also after I played a game of Bad Company 2. -
Have a look at this thread and update your VBIOS first you do not have the latest which can cause problems.
G73Jh GSOD Vbios Update -
If you are using Catalyst drivers after 10.1, you will need to update your video BIOS (vBIOS) to insure stability. On that page is a video for step-by-step instructions.
