My G73JH will lockup pretty much every time I access the control panel for my home phone service. I go in there to delete voice messages... anyway almost every time I do it my machine locks and I have to hold the power button down and restart it. And no I do not have any Creative software installed. I am thinking I should try updating the video driver... I think I have tried in the past though and it seems like it installs but doesn't really. I guess I will need to run the driver remover prior to the new install. I remember going through this a few years back and ending up having to use the restore function to get a driver installed again which is contributing to my trepidation.

I am interested in some feedback as to what others feel is the most stable driver version to run? I do not game on this machine at all, I am solely interested in it working well with no lockups.

Here is my present driver info:

I went ahead and updated to the latest drivers... I have tried to do this before and it would never work. This time though I used the driver verification tool, whatever it does different it seemed to make the difference. I could tell the install was working because for a bit the screen went to a very low resolution. Anyway the latest and greatest installed and I have not had any lockups since. I tried going to the website where my machine would lock consistently and it seems fine there as well. So far so good...

Installing the latest video drivers has not helped, sigh. It seems to lock when there are pop up windows, like in a live chat situation. Anyone have any suggestions?

Have you tried alternate browsers such as PaleMoon, or Chrome ? IF you are using IE try going to the advanced tab of Internet options and reset.
IF it only happens on one site (as mentioned in the first post) I would check with that company & see which browser they recommend.

I use Chrome all of the time. I did try Firefox for a while and it locked with it as well, so I kind of decided it may not be browser related. Perhaps I should try FireFox again though. Thanks

If games are fine then yeah I think it's a browser issue.

A follow up for anyone who has been following this thread with a similar issue. I think I may have solved it. I had the date gadget on my desktop, since removing it I have not had a single lockup.
