Hello everyone,
Whenever installing something from the DVD (i.e. Windows OS or software), first the laptop gets too hot and shuts down automatically after a few minutes.
Likewise, it also shuts down whenever the machine requires CPU power for processes that require higher power.
But, that only happens occasionally. Nevertheless, it happens every time I am trying to install from the DVD drive.
In order to complete my installation I always have to put an extra fan behind the laptop to cool it down.
This just recently started happening in the last few weeks.
I have had the laptop for one and half years and never had this issue until now.
So is this a common issue? I have read a few posts elsewhere that indicate others have had this problem, but none of them list a solution.
I tried a hair dryer/vacuum method to clear out any fuzz or what-have-you by the way, but it does not help.
It is still under the 2 year warranty. If anyone thinks this is a hardware / motherboard / graphics card issue then please let me know, so I can go in and have it replaced ASAP.
Thanks in advance for your help.

That sounds like the classic overheating due to dust. You should get an air can as it puts out a lot more pressure than your typical vacuum cleaner and might just do the trick.
However, before you do that, check what are your load temps, use HWiNFO64 for example and report them here. -
okay. i'll get that from office depot?
meatime, here is the temp report :
let me know if they look alright to you.
thank you -
Those are your idle temps right?
If that is the case, they are quite high. That's about 88C, my CPU doesn't get that hot even when i push it to 100% usage. You definitely have a case of overheating on your hands. Max temp prescribes by Intel is 100C and at the normal clock speeds you'd probably be over that when using the CPU and as such it will throttle itself to prevent damage form heat.
This should be of help: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KXU4lBWEb8s -
hey thanks
this is the report [idle] after the gasduster clean (in celsius):
it definitely did help. now i hardly hear any fan noise!
let me know what do you think. -
could also please check this other thread of mine. no one answered there yet.
your thought would be highly appreciated. thanks

Seems like heatsinks full of dust was the issue. Those idle temps aren't the best, but they are quite acceptable.
-
i suppose you're saying it should be under 50C in idle ...
is there anything i could still do to make it better?
thanks -
Not necessarily, it depends on your ambient temperature and not everyone has a G73 that idles below 50, mine doesn't.
-
There are lots of g73s that idle around 60-70. It's more a question of what the temps are at load - if teh temps at load stay under about 90, you're good.
-
could please explain what do you exactly mean by "load" here?
sorry for being a dumb -
G73JH Overheating, shuts down automacilly !!!
