I have been putting off sending my g73 in to get the PSODed screen fixed for weeks, but I just don't have the time to lose my computer. It is my work machine as well as my only entertainment device.

I was lurking around and read on the forums that the Hannstar screens are all gone, and asus is putting in AUOs. I was really concerned about this, and the wait, because I am a photographer and I thought the Hannstar was great. Better than the Macbook Pro I used to own even.

So my crazy idea was this, maybe I should by a better screen and put it in myself. I was planning on putting in a blueray player, solid state drive and potentially repasting with this tube of diamond goo I have laying here, so I might as well void the warranty anyway.

Does this sound like a decent solution to my time problem, and need for a good quality display?

Does anyone have a suggestion on the best panel for IQ i could put in?

Replacing the panel should fix my PSOD right? (screen is now half pinstripes, half Timothy Leary goggles)

    Thanks for the advice.

if you are willing to shell out the cash for the replacement part, the AUO 1080P screen is great. I actually like the color better than my 07 MBP 15.4 matte screen. The screen replacement itself is pretty easy. I upgraded from the 1600x900 AUO (which was horrid) to the 1080p version. Install was pretty easy, there are some good guides on this forum, and for a hundred and change, it has been by far my favorite upgrade I have done yet!
