    Hello all,

My notebook asus G73JH came with this copy of CyberLink PowerDVD 9 preinstalled on it and it's not bad dvd player but I noticed I am not getting any audio when I play a home made disc's with MPEG2 audio on it. yet the disc play's fine in Windows Media Player, and Neros Media player too and every dvd player I've ever used. this program just doesn't like mpeg2

Any ideas why I am not getting any audio with this player. or is this a trick to get you to upgrade to he full versions?

    Just asking

Using CCCP or K-lite codec pack with MPC-HC(comes with the pack) will let you watch any DVD and Bluray (Bluray menu isn't supported but you can view the individual .m2ts files by opening them with MPC-HC). As to why it isn't playing any audio, I'd check to see if your homemade DVD is using AC3 as audio or WAV. I'm not sure what other audio format is part of the DVD standard, but MPEG2 is only the video and the audio is usually AC3 for DVDs. If it isn't something standard (like MP3), it'll play on most modern players and the new DVD players (which have support for MP3 audio) since it wasn't part of the DVD standard it probably isn't supported by PowerDVD 9 (which was made to play DVDs only).

sorry it's MPEG-1 Layer2 audio it's very old school TMPGenc encoder. I just use what ever the source audio is. in this case it was that. the disc will play in any dvd player btw, as I still have an old Sony first gen dvd player laying around and it plays just fine and it plays them. I got more dvd players then I can count. if you add the ones in computers too. but this player doesn't support an none ac3 or Dolby digital audio format.

Pretty old TMPGenc you used there. Yeah, just don't use the software. I never even installed PowerDVD 9.

VLC as a player makes me ill. There are much better solutions with better build support, like MPC-HC as an example.

VLC is the only one that works out of the box (without codec packs), but yeah, it is worse compared to kmplayer or MPC/MPC-HC.
