I bought this laptop mainly to play the new COD Black Ops, and it runs okay - but what gone wrong with mw?? Game won't run smoothly on none of the settings - doesn't matter 800x600 1600x900 - I have stock drivers and upgraded Bios to 211. I have experienced the GSOD stuff only when I had installed the newest gpu drivers. I also played Assassin's Creed 2 on max resolution and it looked awesome. Sometimes I have impression like this notebook needs time to warm-up or something - I searched the web and found nothing - no problem issues concerning MW2 both with G73 itself or i7 cpu - any clues? Or is this notebook simply faulty? Thanks in advance

Something is definitely not right. MW2 runs flawlessly for me. Constant 60fps online and offline no matter how much chaos is going on and thats on the max settings...though max settings for MW2 is pretty weak with only AAx4. Black Ops on the other hand stutters like hell offline, and is sometimes laggy online but very playable, just not as smooth as MW2.

For Black Ops check these 2 lines in your "config.cfg" file. By default install you can find it here: C:\Program Files (x86)\Activision\Call of Duty - Black Ops\players
Make sure the following 2 lines read:
    seta r_multiGpu "0"
    seta r_multithreaded_device "1"

And my Black Ops runs better with Vsync enabled.

    I hope that helps you

I'll check that as well - btw do you think that installing steam on partition other than C: may affect gaming?

Maaan ! now it works on 1600x900 just like a dream! But still - why is it worse than MW2?

I have steam on on my D: drive/partition and it runs just fine.

As for MW2 on the G73JH, I have this game, and it runs super smooth at 1920x1080, max graphic settings. I get a constant 70-90fps online, so there is definitely something wrong.

Assassins Creed 2 runs fine on high specs, where AC 1 lags ... same thing - maybe there's something wrong with directx?

You need to make sure it's the latest version, too. It was horribly optimized.

Yeah something is wrong with MW2 for me too. When I play spec ops on max settings at 1600x900 I get like 30-40 fps! What could be wrong?

It's the software, not your hardware. Make sure you've done all the updates.

Yeah, and another thing - how come my friend's g73 which has i5 cpu and less ram gets like about 2000 more points in 3dmark 06? (mine got something around 11700)

Well same as mine. I also found out why. I suggest u installed the latest 3dmark 06 update (3dmark_v120_patch_1901)? Because since the new update i only reach about 11500-11700 @ 3dmark 06. Before the new update i was able to reach ~12,7k - 13,5k stock (depends on graphic driver). Vantage and 3dmark11 are normal (~8700 Vantage stock, 2154 3dmark11 stock)
