The short story is that it was a success!
Gary made sure I was well taken care of and my RMA went to California and not Indiana. I sent it in for two things. First and foremost there was a horrible static noise blasting from my speakers when I exit games. It would not respond to the volume keys and plugging in headphones did not silence it. It was a full volume and bypassed everything. Very annoying when I am gaming away after bedtime while my wife sleeps. Suddenly my laptop starts blasting noise. Let's just say that if looks could kill, I would be a dead man.
The second issue was missed keystrokes. I didn't really think there was a fix for this, but I thought I would throw it in there and let them give it the old college try.
It took about one month start to finish. This "month" included both Thanksgiving and Christmas so you have to allow for that. The laptop came back in a nice box but I did not receive the original box. That's OK with me. I wasn't emotionally attached to the box. The laptop is hard to live without, but the box... not so much.
The other issue I had was the keyboard backlight came back not working. I will take responsibility for this. The ribbon cable for the backlight is crinkled and doesn't lay right. The tech put it together the way it naturally lays which is actually backward. I flipped it over and all is right with the world.
The sound thing was intermittent so it will take some time to say that issue is fixed... I'm sure it is, but I need to play more games to be sure. What's weird is that I still miss keystrokes. I say this is weird because they replaced the palmrest/touchpad assembly as well as the motherboard. I had already replaced the keyboard. The keyboard I have is a used one I bought from eBay (hence the wrinkled backlight ribbon). I cannot fathom how they will solve this problem since everything in this laptop that could possibly cause the problem has been replaced and it still misses the occasional keystroke.
Now I'm off to the beta bios thread to see if any of those solutions work for me.
I guess the summary is that the ribbon being backward is understandable since it's a little mangled anyway. They replaced 75% of the inside of this laptop and it still misses keys. They did a good job and shipped it well packed. It arrived looking as good or better than it left.
