After having gone through the RMA blender. I feel some other poor soul might benefit from knowing other peoples RMA stories. I'll start.

    1. First G73JH-A2. Everything worked fine at the start until I updated to Catalyst 10.3 and started having random GSOD's during gameplay. Two keyboard buttons (BACKSPACE, ENTER) also squeaked. I asked ASUS to replace the GPU board, they sent me a brand new laptop instead. I was elated at that point. (RMA turnaround: 4 business days)

    2. So in comes the brand new replacement unit. Everything works fine with stock, but still GSOD's during 3D gameplay as well as 2D. I decided to cook up "something" to alleviate the problem which worked fine until I decided not to live with it. So asked ASUS to replace the GPU board, but they replaced the following components instead. They seem to follow a "machinegun" problem elimination technique. (RMA turnaround: 6 business days)

    a. Replaced LCD (what the F?)
    b. Replaced GPU.
    c. Replaced CPU (why?)

    3. Received "repaired" laptop. Everything worked fine with ANY driver set and new GPU unit was a tank. Finally, I could catch up on game time. Continued with Borderlands.... Five hours into the game, the thing just shut off by itself. Great, here we go again. Lights turned on but unit does not power up. They replaced pretty much everything except for the motherboard so I guess it decided to join in on the fun and commit suicide.

    4. Received "repaired" laptop again. Some scratches on the palm rest area (G!@#$!*#$). They replaced the following components with their "unique" problem elimination process. (RMA turnaround: 11 business days)

    1. Replaced keyboard. Really? What the hell?
    2. Replaced GPU.
    3. Replaced Motherboard. (Hurray!)

Except for the scratches, everything seems to be in good working order so I guess I'm almost satisfied. I'll have to put in some serious usage to make sure everything is working fine, but whether this repaired unit will last, only time will tell.

I hope nobody else experiences the same amount of crap as I did (do?).

Keep an eye on the GPU temps while gaming. I suspect the #3 "mobo suicide" was actually a GPU homicide ;)

Probably not. GPU temps average ~80ish with MW, BFBC2 etc and maxed out at ~90C. In comparison, my first GPU maxed out at ~105C, second GPU at ~102C and fourth at ~92C.

My g73jh-a1 had heat problems. I returned it to the retailer and got an -a2. Problem solved... more or less.

Overall, I have to be pleased with my A1. Temps are on the lower side of the averages seen here, and I'm able enough to do some of the more advanced modding here to give myself a stable system. System came with 1333 RAM, and even a TV-Tuner option ;) Tho the AzureWare WiFi had to go, pronto.

Man that is a LOT of business days.
My G73JH-A2 had that problem where it just stopped booting up...asked for RMA today..

This is going to be my first RMA ever...any guides around to explain how it works?...do I have to put the free mouse/backpack back in the box? (I already gave the mouse to my cousin)

Wow! ur rma was pretty quick! mine took nearly 2+ weeks (working days only) and i received my notebook back with the keyboard lights and Blue led NOT WORKING!!

i suspect they tried to do me a favor and upgraded the bios, killed the lights, and then reverted it back to 206 hoping i wont notice.

workmanship was bad as well, they forced one of the bottom screws in at such an angle it spoiled the threading. I sent mine to Zoomtech, CA and will probably be RMA-ing again.

Which one did you send it to that enabled the return time to be so fast?

Last time I sent a unit to asus for warranty work, it was an 8 day turn around (not 8 business days, sunday -> sunday + 1) and the unit came back perfect.

Never had to RMA my G73. However, when i RMAed my other asus notebook, turn around was around 5 business days for GPU related problems so assuming the parts are available, i guess the turn around would be about the same. They also took the machine gun approach and replaced the screen. It needed cleaning though so it turned out well enough ;).

If they are going to fix your current unit then you only need to send the laptop without anything back. When they replaced my screen I only send the laptop without the battery back.

If they are doing a swap for a brand new system then you have to send everything back bag and mouse included.

Hey Xeven, I'm about to RMA mine to Indiana. Do you remember where you mailed yours to when it returned with scratches? (Inidana USA2, or California USA1)

I live in Canada so I had to send it to Ontario. The California one seems to have the best reputation around here though. Good luck :)
