I've had my G73 from BB for since July, and it's been fine aside from the rising temperatures. Recently, however the right fan almost always makes a really loud noise that sounds like the fan is being blocked by something. The weird thing is that it usually starts somewhat after I've gotten on to my desktop page and it slowly tones winds down until the fan functions normally.

I have yet to clean my vents so theres probably an enormous dust build, so I'm hoping that it's just dust. Could there be something broken in the fan, though?

    Thanksss

    Hi

the right fan is cooling your GPU (GFX) Part.

So it may be possible thats your heatpipe grid is full of dust, so that the warm air cannot be routed to outside the cover.

Open the Back Cover of your G73J with 4 + 2 Screws, lift it, remove the two black glue bars. If u might see dust under it, u got to fully unscrew your case and blow the heatpipe grid with compressed air or something similar.

Which BIOS-Rev did u have installed?

If it is already V2.11, which is optimized for full fan run on gpu module, it is only necessary to clean it the way i explained above.

If it isn´t 2.11, update to 2.11 from support.asus.com using Bios Easy Flash option.

Dont use Windows Bios Flash tools, or u may disable the light bar function if u do so.

If u need more assistance, "pm" me

    regards
    Martin

Thanks for the quick response! I am currently running on bios 209, are you saying I have to take more steps to clean my fans just because my bios version is lower?

Dust would have build up by then.

I think you need to clean it.

What are your current temps now?

    Idle and at gaming?

G73 needs a good cleaning every few months, temps definitely start to rise when things get dirty in there.

And concerning the BIOS, 211 is the newest version and the fan profiles are set to turn on the fans sooner/faster.

My idle temps have risen quite a bit. They are now around 65~ celsius when they used to be at 58~. Not sure what temperatures during full load are as I haven't played any game that requires all of my GPU.

So to clean it all I have to do is open the back cover (the one that you need to open to access the ram and hdds) and then blow compressed air outwards towards the fans?

i've got my G73 for 3 months and temps have kept dropping to be frank :D... must be the ambient temperature but a cleaning always helps.. my guess is your thermal paste on GPU is getting worse and worse... you might have to repaste.. i really doubt G73's vents will fill up with dust in that short of time... they blow a lot of air out and are quite big... the thermal paste seems to be a culprit for me.. i had mine replaced by ICD7 so not a problem for me...
