Some here did some great soldering mods done on the G73 trying to get the internal onboard mSATA to work. After researching I just wonder if its possible to do an easier upgrade/mod to get USB3 or eSATA connection for example..
The G73JH uses internal SATA 150 for all HDDs , but what connection is actually usable on the DVD bay?
From my knowledge internal DVD SATA connections are called slimline SATA and run respectivly only on 5V power. The speed would be the standard 150 MB/s I guess..

My idea is to use a simply use a swapable HDD adapter for DVD bays to have the possibility to use the SATA speed/connection:

then you could use the SATA connection for any USB3 or eSATA adapter.. eSATA needs additional 5V power so this would be ok I guess..

the original blueray DVD could also be used with normal external USB, so it wouldn´t be lost..
    may this work?

    cheers

Yes you can do this with any laptop SATA optical drive.
