    Hi all,
I uninstalled the Creative and Soundblaster softwares from my G73 since they often made it crash during games.

Now I would like to know how to control the volume of the front speakers as well as the subwoofer at the same time.

What I mean is that in the taskbar, on the speaker icon I now have two sound volume sliders: one for the stereo speakers and one for the subwoofer.

Since my front speakers are set as the default device the Fn+F11/F12/F10 shortcuts will only affect those speakers, the subwoofer cannot be controlled that way, I manually have to use the volume slider to control it.

Do you guys have any idea on how to have the 3 speakers (2 fronts+subwoofer) to be controlled the way they used to before uninstalling those softwares?

I would like an answer to this as well...I installed the updated drivers from realtek. Now I'm trying to get the creative drivers to test if the bass works without freezing.

    UPDATE:
I just called Asus to see if I can get the Creative sound blaster software and they said my G73JH did not come installed with a subwoofer or the Creative Software. I then asked if it didn't then how do I control my subwoofer and the agent told me that Bestbuy must have installed it. She even talked to some so called tech and all they could do is esculate this to GOD only knows who.......then I have to call back in three days for who knows what........

Asus(Media Mentor) has to be the lamest in the whole world for tech support. I can't believe they manufactured my G73JH

The subwoofer should be directly connected with the stereo speakers.

use this: Tone Generator Software Download
and make a 100Hz signal. See if you can mess with it.

Also I recommend realtek drivers only with enhancements disabled in the windows audio settings.

In my case the subwoofer is still independent from the stereo speakers

If the sub is connected to the two speakers as previously mentioned, that would mean that it's a fake 2.1. True 2.1 would use three independent amplifiers. If this is indeed the case, then you were never really adjusting the sub so much as losing sound from the other two speakers through filtering.

I think it was betaflame that mentioned it earlier. As soon as it was mentioned it brought back memories of when I first received my G73 and was playing around with the Creative junk. I have to agree with his assessment, as you increased the bass it had a dynamically compressed sound that was horrible.

OKay I have a question as someone who is considering this lappy. Oh, and SORRY to bump such an old thread, but does the G73JH have a subwoofer or doesn't it? When Skygunner posted that he called Asus, he said that there was no sub, then he also posted there was a sub. SOmeone also said it was just on the Best Buy model? But that doesn't make any sense.

Justin from Xoticpc said there is no sub on the G73, but he didn't seem certain. I have read in several places that there is one, though!

Just look at pictures of the bottom of the machine, it definitely has a sub-woofer.

Thank you! Didn't even think to do that. PLus, you are an owner, so that about settles that.

Oh, one more thing: You don't have the Best Buy model, do you? There seemed to be some doubt by the member I referenced saying Asus customer support told him the G73 didn't have one. So I just want to make sure it is not just a Best Buy addition. ;)

The Best Buy one does as well. ASUS is not about to make a custom chassis for Best Buy... ;)

Though, I wouldn't say the audio blew me away.

I don't think a laptop has ever been made that will blow you away with its incredible sound! I will say that (to reference my XPS Gen 2 one last time lol!) the sound on that beast is the best I have ever heard. I would be absolutely pleased as punch if the sound on whatever lappy I choose is as good as the one I have presently.

The speakers are decent, but it's a laptop, you really should be using an external set anyways for anything other than on the road listening.

I knew that the Bestbuy models had the sub & creative software. At the time the unit that I previously owned had creative lockups so I called Asus to explain the problems for a possible solution.

The idiot over the phone told me that the Bestbuy models don't have the sub with creative software...obviously he was wrong.

I hope this clears things up.
