    Hey guys,
I ordered an ASUS G73JH from XoticPC recently and it's supposed to arrive Saturday and I can't afford to receive it any later for personal reasons. I opted for a thermal compound upgrade to the IC Diamond and a wireless network card upgrade to the Intel® Advanced-N 6200 - 802.11A/B/G/N Wireless LAN Module. They told me it would take up to next week to complete these upgrades or I would have to pay $60 to have them ship it faster. Are these upgrades worth it and is there any way I could get these upgrades done anywhere else (I live in Toronto, Canada). Thanks in advance.

I like how you made it easy to find that out by setting your location as Antarctica.

The wireless card is a pretty simple item to upgrade yourself, but you still need some technical sense. The thermal paste upgrade on the other hand is pretty difficult, relatively speaking. Honestly, pay the extra $60 in shipping and have them do the thermal paste unless you're a laptop dis assembly pro.

I like how he didn't even attempt to answer your question, haha. Anyways the wireless card can easily be replaced, just open up the back and you should be able to see it. http://forum.notebookreview.com/asu...475907-asus-g73-series-disassembly-guide.html

The thermal compound on the other hand is a lot more of a hassle and if you aren't familiar with opening up laptops and such it may not be a good idea to repaste yourself. Again the disassembly guide I linked above shows how you would take apart your G73 and get to the GPU/CPU to apply the IC7.

Thanks for the info and the links guys. Are the upgrades worth it though? Will I see a drastic drop in the temperature with that compound? Will I get faster internet with that card?

150mbit vs 300mbit will help with your LAN transfers. Plus the Intel unit seems to work better for WiFi when roaming.

Temps should be more futureproof with ICD7 vs the stock "stuff" ewww

The I7 compound is much better then stock. I don't have links readily available at the minute, but if you look around you will see people getting much lower temps, some people with GPU idling at 50s~, then with stock compound. With stock compound and clock rates I idle at 60~. When I lower my clocks to 200/405 I get about 52~, but I think I'm lucky...

Anyways, the wireless card is a good upgrade too. It's pretty cheap and super easy to install!

    EDIT* made a mistake luls
